Transcode MPEG2 to WMV - how long does it take?

On average?

Obviously it depends on the original MPEG-2 bitrate and destination WMV bitrate etc. but I was chatting to a guy earlier today who was converting a 90 minute MPEG-2 recording to WMV using Adobe Premiere and it had taken nearly 7 hours. The PC was a reasonably high spec. one.

Is this normal? It seems a bit extreme to me.

I just converted a 3 minute long MPEG-2 to WMV in 1 minute.

Thanks - I'll try a test with my system - I thought it sounded a bit odd that it would take so long.
