Hope this wasn't asked already, I did a search but didn't see anything related. It sounds like it uses the UPnP standard same as the MVP, anyone try it yet. I can't find the mediaMVP anywhere around here (ontario) and the linkplayer sounds much better suited for my High Def setup.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Sorry, but the MVP is not a UPnP device. This device does not work like an MVP.

The new H1 MVP models are starting to hit the streets, so they should be available again soon.

Is H1 just a new firmware revision? Anything else different?

On a similar note, I just wrote Hauppauge sales to ask if they had any more info about when the wireless MVP would be out, and he said a few weeks. Who knows how accurate that is...

I only have an MVP, so take this with a grain of salt, but I have been looking at the LinkPlayer2 (as well as the Tvix HD-5000 and Pixelmagic box) for a HD solution in the future. I don't see any reason one couldn't build a UPnP plugin for GB-PVR, but there are various UPnP servers available. Some are free and some aren't. You can still use GB-PVR for scheduling; you'll just have to have another server app running for UPnP and use whatever UI that provides on the LP2 to browse and play content. Major drawbacks - no recording scheduling and no commercial skip from the LP2 (unless you want to remove them from the actual file on the server).

Other notes: The LP2 has a Linux server it can use. Also, I think some people have been working on using the LP2 with MythTV. I know someone has a script that lets them watch live tv. The Roku HD1000 box can also view HD TS files, and there is a port of the MythTV frontend for it. So you have some options, but so far nothing is close to the GB-PVR + MVP solution we all love, which is why I'm not that concerned about HDTV yet (that and all the $$$).

Its more than just firmware. They revised the hardware design, added SPDIF audio connection, and internal socket for compact flash sized wireless module. The new wired version of this is effectively the same board without the wireless module inserted.

I had read the new wireless one would have SPDIF. Are the hardware design changes merely to support wireless, or is there more to it (if you can say)? Is the socket such that you could buy wired and go wireless later by buying an adapter? Most importantly, will they function the same with GB-PVR?

There are no other major changes that I'm aware of, but they may have fixed other small things like dark picture etc.

I'm not sure in the final retail model. Either way, its hidden away inside the MVP case, and not intended to be upgraded in they way you describe.

I dont know yet. I should receive mine in the next day or so.

I just read elsewhere that the new H1 model does not boot the same. People were having problems with mvpmc. Good luck with that!

A few sites mention that the LP2 is UPnP complient and is working with third party server apps.

Here's a link that shows it listed
