Are extended keyboard presses available via remote?

One of the things that I like about using the keyboard is that if you hold down an arrow key, it will keep going in that direction. For instance, if I'm trying out XSearch and using the OSD, I just have to hold down the right arrow key, and it immediately zooms to the right.

When I set up my USB-UIRT (which was pretty easy), it only goes to the next letter, no matter how long I press down the key. So to go across the keyboard, I have to press the key multiple times. I figured that I would try Girder and map it to a keyboard key. Well, that helped me get the sounds working properly in BleepBloop, but I still have the same problem. I tried using the antirepeat wait time, but that didn't seem to have an effect. I even tried reprogramming my JP1 remote to an actual IR keyboard, but that didn't work (and indeed, made it worse), so I reflashed it back to the codes I had already used.

Is there any programmatic way via GBPVR to recognize that a key is being held down on the remote, or is it just a function of a remote to repeatedly send a keypress? I know that it is possible through the normal Tivo, but perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
