I've got the base skin and nothing else in the config drop down list. I can't make any of the skins I've downloaded work. My skins folder is now a mess of subfolders and files everywhere. Can someone please do a

dir /s > skins.txt

or a

dir /ad /s > skins.txt

and attach the skins.txt file to the post so I can see what the hell I've done wrong and where files are supposed to go and what the directory structure should actually be?

Most of the skins "documentation" seem to be written by people who know what they are doing and assume that we all do to. Which I don't. I'm new to this and it's all really confusing. All I really want to do is change the look. The appearance plugin seems to do this. I thought I unzipped it all properly and downloaded the extra dll thingy that it said to get and the skin pack and put it all in and went to the config, but neither the skin shows up or the plugin. Something has gone awry and I think a directory or file listing or screenshot of the folder from somebody elses working installation will set me straight - the documentation and forum posts sure aren't working.

First of all, the Appearance plugin only works with skins designed for them. Plain Jane, The Collection, Chameleon, Blue-AM, Contour-AM BaseSkin Thempack, MCE2-AM BaseSkin Themepack.

All plugin .dll files go in the \gbpvr\plugins directory.
Common library .dll files go in the \gbpvr directory.

Make sure skin files are only one level deep.

For example: \gbpvr\skin\SkinName\
Not \gbpvr\skin\SkinName\SkinName\

Hope this helps.

Hi frumbert,

Maybe I can help.

First I'll post the directory structure as you asked. Then I will identify the zip files that must be downloaded and where they should be unzipped.

This is the directory showing several skins; Blue and some that work with Appearance Manager (AM)
  • AM Tutorial
  • Blue-AM
  • Collection
  • Plain Jane

Please know that the skin directory contains nothing other than the skin's sub-directories, there are no loose files there.

Appearance Manager is available as a separate download from the GBPVR Documentation Wiki.

The Appearance Manager zip file must be downloaded and placed in the "devnz\gbpvr" directory and the files extracted there.

Click on this link to start the download directly from the wiki...
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/uploads/Plugin/Appearance.zip

Appearance Manager (AM) needs the Common GBPVR Utilites library which you can also download from the Wiki.
(In the future, I hope to eliminate this dependency.)

Like AM, the library zip file must be downloaded and placed in the "devnz\gbpvr" directory and the files extracted there.

Click on this link to start the download directly from the wiki...
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/uploads/Developm...lities.zip

Once you have downloaded and extracted the two zip files, you should find the following files
  • AppearanceManager.dll in "devnz\gbpvr\plugins"
  • CommonGBPVRUtilities.dll in "devnz\gbpvr"

Thanks for that stefan - my skin folder is in a more serious mess than that with subfolders and all sorts of nonsense everywhere.

Everyone else I'll have to compare and try to get it right tonight after work Smile

Thanks Old Dog - your screenshots and clear explanation did it. I think I had some files in the wrong folder. I deleted all the skins and just reloaded this one and it's all good now.

You're welcome frumbert. Let me know if you need more help.

BTW, remind me and over the weekend I'll post a prepared bundle of Plain Jane and her AM skins.

Regards,
David
