Hi everyone,

I've been using various versions of my home built PVR for about 7 or 8 months now and have been using GBPVR since day one. Great software, of course (and great support!). I have now stumbled upon info on FFDShow (what took me so long, I don't know) and can't seem to find exactly the answers I need searching the forum. So, if anyone out there isn't sick of answering these questions and has a few minutes it would be greatly appreciated...

1. Is it worth it to use FFDShow with a standard definition television? (I probably won't be going HD for a while)

2. Can I just download and install FFDShow, click on the "use FFDshow processing" checkbox in GBPVR and wah-lah! (or is there more to it... I'm guessing there is more to it... but hoping not much more!)

3. Should I download "ffdshow" or "ffdshow-alpha." My OS is Windoze XP with all of the latest and greatest snoopware... er... patches.

4. Are there many horror stories using ffdshow or does it pretty much tighten up your picture without too many flaws (I might not be able to take too many days of a low WAF!)

Thanks to anyone with some info. Cheers, guys (and gals)!

Ok - I 2nd this question - everything is going really well with my system at present - using the latest release perfectly, using sqlite with no problems (and yay - things dissapear instantly when you delete them from recordings). The only issue I have is that on my projector I get a little bit of tearing at the top of the screen which I beleive ffdshow can help resolve. But does it work well with MPEG2 - looks like its mainly designed around Divx/Xvid/Mpeg4. Is it going to give a usefull feature set with MPEG2 like de-interlacing and things?

From what I understand FFDshow works with GBPVR if you use its decoder.

If you try to enable post processing only (ie use purevideo with FFDshow's postprocessing only) it will not work.

Sub said he'll look into this at some point, as postprocessing should work regardless of the decoder. IMHO FFDshow is only good for postprocessing, I wouldn't use the built in decoder.

Some people say Dscaler is a good free decoder and it seems that FFDshow and Dscaler can work well together - although I haven't tested this in GBPVR.
