Looking at replacing my ATI card as it is not supported by GB-PVR. At this point I am not worried about dual tuners and I already have a remote for my pvr. My question is this, can I buy the PVR-150 that does not include a remote to save the $$$? It looks like the same card the as PVR-150MCE, with out a remote included.

WAF would be raised considerably ( Big Grin ) by the $67 card -vs- the $90. Not to mention the fact that my pvr will be 100% funtional! (live tv works but currenty, I can't get timeshift or recordings to work) Will I lose any features by not getting the remote with it?

PVR-150 Tuners on Newegg

Here is the card that I am considering: PVR-150MCE with no remote

I know on the wiki under capture cards it says both will work and both are supported natively, and that the non-MCE is the most popular. Is one better than the other or is it just preferance?

I also have to add a thank you to Sub. He has been helping me try and get my unsupported ATI card working with the software recorder. Not only has Sub been great this entire forum is awesome! I like GB-PVR and this forum enough to replace my tuner card rather than go with a different front end.

So Thank you to Sub and everyone else who has helped me!

Thanks tipstir, while the idea of dual tuners is enticing, I can't swing $140 for a tuner card right now. $67 shipped is more realistic right now, and maybe down the road when the wife and I are addicted to time shift tv and want to record while watching something else I will go that route, and have three tuners. Smile

Any preferance to the regular 150 -vs- the MCE edition?

I just recently bought a PVR-150MCE for 58 Dollars shipped off of ebay. Then decided to pick up a Stream Zap remote for 30 bucks or so. Saved a little money that way.

I have three 150MCE's in my system and they work just fine. Unless you need/want the remote that comes with the non-MCE 150, save your money & go with the MCE card.

My $0.02 anyway...

Thanks Zed.... thats kinda of the way I am leaning right now.

Do you know what the major difference is between the MCE and the regular? I know the remote hook up is different, but that won't affect me as I have my own remote already. Thanks Zed!

The MCE Uses Composite audio jacks instead of the headphone style like the non-MCE. You'll still need a remote receiver though to use your remote, unless you have that too. The MCE doesn't have an "IR" port.

I have a remote and reciever, so I am all set in that department.

Looks like the one that I want is the OEM (whitebox) 150MCE. Now I just need to pull together enough $$ to pay for that and a donation to sub.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Remember that the 150 does not just come with a remote receiver, but also an IR blaster. I first bought a 150mce (and it works great). Then I got digital cable with at set top box. Now I needed a way to change the STB. So I just used that as my excuse and got a regular 150 ($59.99 after circuit city rebatesSmile ) Now they both work side by side without issue and I use the blaster that comes with the 150 to control the STB. Have fun!
