Im trying to set up a client server. Basically I want to be able to control gbpvr and watch tv from my laptop via wireless. I noticed gbpvr has some kind of server option. anyone ever set this up?

As I currently understand there is no PC software client for GBPVR (despite repeated and numerous requests, hint, hint Wink. I think the GBPVR server option you seen is referring to the MVP (media player) hardware client.

It is possible to watch pre-recorded shows on your laptop but forget about live TV and I don't think you can schedule recordings from the laptop but I could be wrong on that one...

There is some info on the WIKI home page on configuring GBPVR on a client PC so you can watch pre-recorded stuff (basically mapping a network drive).
I think the WIKI entry is titled something like Network Client.

As I understand it, the only thing that may cause difficulties is watching live TV or a pending recording. The interface works, such as scheduling viewing the guide etc. Having said this, I believe you can unregister a GBPVR component and Live TV and recordings in progress will work, but I don't think you';ll be able to fast forward rewind and such.

Code has vanished Sad
Many Thanks

probably because it's out of date and not experimental anymore. tick 'configure as client' (or something like it) in config, and fill in the share names for the database and live tv (which obviously need to be shared on the server). If I remember rightly the code was just hacked config.xml on the client so it pointed to the server for the db and recordings.
your choice of streaming or file sharing depends on what file types you're recording as. I've found streaming most reliable in the past, but will only handle mpegs. Filesharing will work with .ts dvrms and more.

EDIT: sorry I hope I'm not talking at cross purposes here. This thread starts (albeit a while back) about a PC client, but the thread you've linked to seems to be about the MVP - hope the above is of help, but ignore me if I've completely missed the point of what you're asking Smile

AND EDIT AGAIN: OK so Ive read through a few more of your posts and to give you some more info on the client set up: You can watch live TV on it. It's pretty network heavy so is fine on a wired network, but could be a bit glitchy over wireless (i.e. laptop use) unless you've got some super system set up. Plugins function fine but database based ones (eg music library2) are going to be local to the client. Simple ones like photos could conceivably be told to look at a network share though. DVBT radio plugin does have a specific client mode if you use that.
I have a P3 running as a client in a second room and can't fault it. I've tried a client setup several times on a laptop but the wireless networking has always let me down so I generally just use the webadmin to stream in these cases as it has the facility to chose a lower video bitrate.

Yep, works fine on a wired network, but my expirience is that you need to add the RecordingService to exceptions in Windows firewall on the server. Don't know why...
