I have completed my new setup and have found one issue that I found strange. I use the Purevideo decoder for both playback and DVD. I am running on a 3800+x2, 1g ram, using the MSI Nforce 6150 mobo graphics using the component video out.

I have enabled in the decoder options in the config: hardware accleration, raw aspect, automatic/best available and prefer vmr9. In the GBPVR config i have enabled VMR9 custom renderer. Encoder pass through is being used.

Live TV looks good as do DVD's (DVD's look amazing), but recordings made have been a bit washed out and grainy....almost "pixely". Recording a show for a couple minutes and then watching it on live TV there is definitely a difference in quality. The one thing i have noticed, though, is that the Purevideo Decoder icon and options are in the system tray during live TV and during DVD playback, but are missing when I play recorded shows.

Need some help on why that would be. Since all 3 are being run through the directshow filter, it would only make sense that the icon would appear during playback of all 3. Are the 3 routed through GBPVR differently?

Another thing I have noticed. When i go in the config and change the settings for the Purevideo codec, the seeings such as VMR default on deinterlacing is not there (as many others have stated is missing as well). However, if i check the settings from the system tray when a DVD is playing, it shows and uses VMR default.

I know there are a good chunk of people who have had some issues with this of late. Since the most frequent use is with recordings and with the quality being so good on the others I would definitely like to get that working.

Thanks.

A few people have pointed this out, but after investigating it was found that it was being used but the tray icon not appearing. I dont know why it does or doesnt show its tray icon - I dont use this decoder myself. You can check it is being used by looking at the filter list in gbpvr.exe-native.log.

Sorry, I dont really know anything about this decoder. nvidia must have some custom logic in their decoder to only selectively show settings in some situations, but I dont know what those rules are. I treat all video decoders the same, and just ask them to display their properties.

Icon only appears if GBPVR is using the default rendenerer and Purevideo is the default renderer.

Well after trying numerous attempts to resolve this issue with the recordings and VMR9 with teh Purevideo decoder, I finally found my fix. Initially I had thought this was a quartz.dll issue and had used the version referenced in the sticky'd "Disappointing Mpeg2...." thread but the issue still remained.

After trying every directshow filter hotfix and update, I started combing the forums for other software for similar situation. When I read the sticky on the Sage forums on the quartz.dll issue, the posted dll file on that site was a different, older version that the one I found here. I attempted the replacement with this quartz.dll file (older date, I believe it was a 2003 version) and viola! The recordings have no interlace problems, no jitter, no dropped frames anymore. VMR9 and VMR9 custom renderer both work fine now and the pq is great (not as dark as the Intervideo decoder i was relegated to). I still do not get the system tray icon during recording playback (although I still find it weird that I would get it during timeshifting and not on recordings) but does not matter.

I know this may not help with all, but for those with continued stuttering on Purevideo and bad deinterlacing issues (real bad), figured this may help.

Now if I can just get my new ATI 550 pro encoding quality a bit better Tongue

Use the ATI 550 Control Panel (available with latest drivers) and set noise filtering to 'none'

Any chance of you telling us exactly which version it is? Please...Big Grin

In order to get all of the options for deinterlacing, the purevideo decoder needs to be connected to the VMR9. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this from NVIDIAs end. So, in order to see the properties when it is called from the config app, it isn't enough to create an instance of the decoder in the graph and query its property sheet, you actually have to hook it up to a semi-real file and connect it to the VMR9. You can then call its property sheet and have the full range of options. You can do this through graphedit, or hope that sub makes this an option in a future version.
