Is it possible to just play a DVD via GBPVR? If so, how? There's no menu for it.

Thanks.

Make sure that you have the Show DVD button checked and the correct drive specified in your config.

See this page on the wiki:http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Config/DVD
Server: Windows 10 - ASrock N3150DC -ITX Fanless Celeron
Clients: Shield TV with X-newa on Kodi, Asus chromebox - openelec - X-newa on Kodi

Also, you can't use the PVR-350's TV-out functionality to play DVD's - if you're using that card, you have to use a separate video card for GBPVR's output.
GBPVR 1.1.5 on
Pentium 4 2.0GHz
PVR-350
NVidia GeForce 5200 TV-Out

I believe I've configured that menu correctly, but my GB-PVR install can't seem to properly display or navigate any DVD menus. I have an old (v5) version of PowerDVD installed on the system, and have tried both the "DVD Navigator" and "Cyberlink PowerDVD" Navigator options.

On a Simpsons collection 1 DVD, the "DVD Navigator" option resulted in the FBI headers auto-playing but no menu. The "Cyberlink" option resulted in nothing.

The system navigates DVD menus correctly when using WMP and old PowerDVD.

I have no infrared remote with this system and am using a RF keyboard/joystick combo for all access.

Any ideas? There don't appear to be any other options with the Navigator pulldown. Would a newer version of PowerDVD help? I'm not real clear on how GB-PVR handles or passes off navigation.

Thanks!

I've had a couple of people report problems like this when they have the PoweDVD v5 installed. I've havnt got around to looking into why this is.

I think its worth a shot if you have this available to you.

PowerDVD v5 seems a little odd. It apparently uses its own decoder since the nVidia PureVideo decoder icon never appears while it is active. That decoder quality is also WAY off compared to my HDD/DVD settop recorder.

I also gather that WMP doesn't come with its own DVD decoder; like GB-PVR it uses whatever it finds in the system.

Do you know if GB-PVR can use _any_ installed DVD decoder, or are we limited to particular packages? I'll track down some others and see how they work.

Thanks!

I would suggest using the K-lite Mega Codec pack, selecting custom install, and select the Intervideo codecs (all references to them).

Then use DecCheck to make sure it is the main primary Codec for the system

Then I would set GB-PVR to use the Intervideo..

Here's the only issue... Do you want to go down the path where some of the software 'isn't supposed to be in the pack' ?

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Well, I ended up removing all codecs from the system except for PureVideo (verified by DECCHECK). This left me with no GB-PVR alternative but "DVD Navigator" and it seems to work better than before. At least I was able to properly navigate one or two commercial DVDs, and they displayed with PureVideo.

I'm having additional problems with MPEG-2 file playback which I think I'll start a new thread over.

As long as I can establish and recover a baseline, I don't mind tweaking software.

Thanks!

I should also mention that I tried upgrading to PowerDVD v6 and making corresponding GB-PVR config changes, but it had no effect on GB-PVRs ability to navigate DVDs.

My best luck thus far with GB-PVR DVD navigation has been removing all codecs except for PureVideo, and using "DVD Navigator." It works OK but seems to get lost on some DVDs.

I wasn't willing to try the PowerDVD v7 trial, at over 3x the size of v6 I really doubt I'll use any of their "upgrades" since I don't need anything but DVD menus. Wink

Thanks again.
