Hi guys!

i am planing on buying a MediaMVP to have it setup as a gbpvr client. I read in the product info that it plays mpeg-1,mpeg-2 and divX. what about other formats such as xvid,mp4 etc...is it not possible to play them (i have lots of xvid video files.). can anyone give me some info on this product and how it works as a gbpvr client? it would be much appriciated!

thx

It does not play divx natively, but if your machine is fast enough (2Ghz+) it can transform it into mpeg2 (which is a mediamvp native format). My setup (see signature) just manages to play divx.

i have only a p4 1.7 mhz with 512 mb rdram as my server! so i guess Divx and Xvid are out of the question.... does anyone know of another cheap solution that i can use gbpvr with? i only need the divx and mpeg playback (i dont need live tv..)

thx

If you have enough disk space, you can transcode the xvid and other formats in advance into mpegs. Streaming mpegs to the mvp takes a lot less cpu power than trying to transcode on-the-fly.

You can also burn mpegs to dvd (if you have a burner), and dvd players are very inexpensive. There are even some that can play divx files.

The ZProcess utility, found on the wiki at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/ZProcess ,
serves as a front-end to ffmpeg.exe, a very good audio/video transcoding application that is installed along with GB-PVR.

I'm sure you can get a network media player that'll handle Xvid and just point that at your media - however you won't get the GBPVR menus and plugin functions...

thx for the answer guys, i really appriciate it!

transcoding ,my 300 GB tv and movie collection is not an option though its a nice idea :o i just dont have the Xtra space Smile i guess ill just have to either settle for not divx/Xvid playing and buy the mediamvp or just assemble a client computer form stuff i get from friends ;-)

thx again

Just read this... I'll tell you what... ZProcess should be OK with your computer so long as it's dedicated and you have the other auto-run programs and services tweaked well enough so that your memory isn't being hogged by other stuff.

My wife's computer (the server) was a P4 1.8 with 512 MB RAM, and she was determined to check her email all the time....

I finally broke down and got another 512MB RAM and that helped. Then I decided while I was at it, To upgrade the whole computer.

But really the only difference between the 1.8 and the 3.2 (new) is that I can Transcode to a slightly higher and clearer resolution...

But, if this is not an option, give it a go, and join me in the support Thread, I'll give it a go to help tweak your system...

I had a amd 2000+ which transcoded divx fine so you might actually get away with a P4 1.7, on the website it states P4 1.8 is needed for divx playback on the mediamvp

Hauppuage website Wrote:PC System Requirements
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home, XP Professional or Windows2000
128MB RAM and 20GB hard disk space (minimum recommended)
Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
Processor: 750MHz or faster. 1.8GHz P4 or faster to play DivX movies.
CD-ROM drive for loading software

thx for all the answers guys!

i really appriciate it, but i think i will go for the dedicated PC client built from scraps Smile i think it will be the same money wise (ill have to add stuff to the scraps) and i know it will be alot nosier and bigger then the media MVP, but the last thing i want is another machine with jerky playback (see my other post in the forum). i appriciate once again all the answers from everyone! maybe someday in the near future a mediamvp with divx support will come out and then ill buy it!

thx
