Is anyone else having issues editing the config.xml file?

I can even open the file and save it without making any changes and that will mess it up. I've tried using Notepad, Wordpad, Editpad Pro. I've also tried this on three different machines without success. In the past I could edit it, but no longer.

After I save it, I'll open it with IE to see if IE complains and it will say:
Code:
The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource 'file:///C:/Documents and Settings/Chris/Desktop/...

I'm really having a hell of a time with my PVR at the moment and I see suggestions about editing the config.xml to set this and that to true/false and I can't try any of this because I can't edit that file!
MY PVR:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Hardware: Silverstone LC13-E, Athlon II 250, Asrock 785GMH, 2GB Corsair RAM, 250GB WD HDD, 1TB WD Black, Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE tuner (s-video to Dish STB), HDHomeRun (ATSC x2), MCE2004 for Rx, USB-UIRT for Tx, Sony VL600 Remote, 36" Sony Wega HD CRT on DVI to embedded ATI HD4200.
TV Service: Dish Network and Antenna Pics 'n Details

Its just a standard text file. Notepad should do the job for you.

If for some reason the "®" symbol is causing you some problem, just delete them from the file when you're editing it. This will only cause you problem if you were trying to use that specific audio/video decoder (unlikely)

It sounds like something is corrupting your config.xml and preventing changes from being made. That sounds sort of like a virus. There are many viruses that attack random text files...

It is a stab, but it sounds too strange. But I don't think there's anyway that that type a activity can be pegged to GB-PVR...

Make sure to *only* edit it using notepad or something that you know is a pure text editor only. Wordpad will add its own comments and other meta information that will normally render the file useless to GBPVR.
