Hi folkes,

I've been struggling with my computer for the last 14 days and is now so excursed that I’ am making this post in the hope that one of you could throw me a bone or a good tip, so it's possible to get the picture with sound too :-)

On my old hard drive everything picture and sound worked perfectly.

The problem came after formatting and installing my new sata hard drive everything works perfect, EXCEPT there’s no sound in GB-PVR, and it is only in GB-PVR it's missing. If I play a DVD on the computer from e.g. PowerDVD everything is perfect, if I take the exact same DVD and play it through GB-PVR, the picture is perfect but absolutely no sound. The no sound problem is
everywhere in GB-PVR, Live TV, Recorded TV, DVD and so on.

The system I'am running on is a Pentium 4, 2,4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 2 X 300 GB SATA Harddrive, ASUS V6600 Deluxe GeForce 256, ASUS P4S800D-X Motherboard, Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE TV-tunercard, running Windows 2000 SP4.
It is a completely new and clean installation of Windows 2000 SP4 I've tried to install GB-PVR 0.98.13 from (GBPVR09813.msi)
The Procedure I used is:

01. Installation of DirectX 9.0c
02. Installation of driver for the TV-tunercard, from '051024_Amity2 2.0.35.23297.PreRelease.zip'
03. Installation of Windows Media Player 9 series
04. Installation of Cyberlink PowerDVD Deluxe Advanced Edition v7.0 Multilingual
05. Installation of Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) - Danish
06. Installation of Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0
07. Installation of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1
08. Installation of GB-PVR
09. Installation of XMLTV
10. Configurering of GB-PVR

I have tried the trick with holding down the right arrow, still no sound.
The driver I’ am using is exactly the same (Amity2 2.0.35.23297) as last time it worked. I've also tried the latest drivers there seemed to be for windows 2000, '051214 Amity2 2.0.35.23348.3264 (WHQL Signed).zip' but that didn't bring back any sound either.

I also tried clicking "BDA Mux Checker" and saw that it said that there wasn’t any Multiplex filters on the machine, so I installed "InterVideo WinDVD Recorder 5" as it seemed that GB-PVR used it on the old GB-PVR 0.96.8 edition I got it to work with last time it worked.

The PCI slot I got it working with last time is exactly the same as I’ am using now (the card hasn't been moved).

As I've seen in many of the other post's people are getting asked to post their log files so I have included them in this post as well. Both from the first time when I got it working (‘(v0.96.8) GBPVR.exe.log’ and ‘(v0.96.8) GBPVR.exe-native.log’) and now from the current installation where there’s no sound in GB-PVR (‘(v0.98.13) GBPVR.exe.log’ and ‘(v0.98.13) GBPVR.exe-native.log’) .

Yours sincerely and thanks in advance

Did you try setting the audio decoder on th playback tab of the config app?

Your old logs show it was previously using the ffdshow audio decoder. Your new logs show it using 'MPEG Audio Decoder'.

SInce you've got an analog card, you dont need to worry about multiplexers.

Hi Sub,

Thanks for replying so fast on my post. I've tried first to install the ffdshow from the file I had in my savings '2004.10.12 ffdshow-20041012.exe' it originated from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles...p_id=53761 . And have tried all the possibilities at "GB-PVR Configuration" >> "Playback" tab >> "Audio Decoder" (under the bold "headline" "Software MPEG-2 Playback:") . The available options I've tried is "System Default", "MPEG Audio Decoder", "CyberLink Audio Decoder", "InterVideo Audio Decoder" and "ffdshow Audio Decoder" . When I got it working first time it was set to "System Default".
The procedure I used was first change the "Audio Decoder" option, click "Ok" to save the change. Start "GB-PVR" >> Click "Live TV" >> change to another channel then the one it started on (just in case) and remembering to try to push the right arrow key (just in case). But with out any luck, the sound didn't come back.
If anyone has an idea how to fix the missing sound issue I'd be very happy to hear it :-)

If you play a video file, then hold down the right arrow, does the volume return?

Hi sub and stefan,

Thanks for the suggestions, but neither of them seemed to work. I’ve come a bit longer then last but the results are pretty wired. If I switch 3 points in my installation procedure it’s working.
The procedure there supposed to work is, as mentioned in the first post:
01. Installation of DirectX 9.0c
02. Installation of driver for the TV-tunercard, from '051024_Amity2 2.0.35.23297.PreRelease.zip'
03. Installation of Windows Media Player 9 series
04. Installation of Cyberlink PowerDVD Deluxe Advanced Edition v7.0 Multilingual
05. Installation of Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) - Danish
06. Installation of Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0
07. Installation of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1
08. Installation of GB-PVR 0.98.13
09. Installation of XMLTV
10. Configurering of GB-PVR

If I change point 5, 6 and 8 it works, so it looks like this it works:

01. Installation of DirectX 9.0c
02. Installation of driver for the TV-tunercard, from '051024_Amity2 2.0.35.23297.PreRelease.zip'
03. Installation of Windows Media Player 9 series
04. Installation of Cyberlink PowerDVD Deluxe Advanced Edition v7.0 Multilingual
05. Installation of Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) - Danish
06. Installation of Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package (dotnetfx).exe
07. Installation of Microsoft Data Access Components 2.60.6526.3 (Mdac_typ_Da).exe
08. Installation of GB-PVR 0.96.08
09. Installation of XMLTV
10. Configurering of GB-PVR

If I try to do first mentioned procedure and only switching point 6 from GB-PVR 0.98.13 to GB-PVR 0.96.08 the at the end I only receive an error message saying that GB-PVR configuration cannot start.

So GB-PVR 0.98.13 seem to be buggy or missing something that GB-PVR 0.96.08 have. GB-PVR 0.96.08 doesn’t have the new features that 0.98.13 have and seems on the other hand not able compatible with “Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) – Danish” and “Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0”. So the solution must be to find the newest version after GB-PVR 0.96.08 there works.
Can any of you point me towards where the old versions of GB-PVR is to be found ?

I'm not aware of any bug relating to the symptoms you describe. Lots of people here own PVR500s. Infact, I use one myself.

All versions since v0.97 have used .net 2.0 instead of the older .net 1.1 that was used previously.

There is no archive of old GB-PVR versions available. I only ever put make the current version available for download.
