Hi Everyone,

I currently use multidec to decode some of the channels i watch.

I see in the capture source setup that there is an option to use CAM/CI instead of multidec..... so i took the plunge and ordered a Hauppauge WinTV-CI.

As i currently have a X-Cam and smartcard - i figured i could just change the setting on the capture source (my sat cards are Hauppauge HVR4000 and Nova-S-Plus) to be CAM/CI and bingo it would be off and racing.

Sorry to say it wasnt that easy - it just sat on a black screen doing nothing.

I have windows xp pro x86 sp3 - and the device manager says the wintv-ci is present and working successfully.... even the gbpvr log says its found the wintv-ci - but that seems to be where things get murky.

Any tips would be appreciated please - i was hoping the wintv-ci would give me a more reliable experience - as the multidec approach (for me anyways) can sometimes result in nothing decoding - its kinda hit and miss.

attached is the log file

The CAM/CI support is very limited in GBPVR. It only works for some specific cards. For example, I have a TechnoTrend USB tuner with CI slot that I was never been able to make it work with GBPVR despite TechnoTrend interface is officially supported in 1.4.7.

I find MULTIDEC very stable with NPVR. In my case It can decode 6 channels from two tuners simultaneously.

With the WinTV-CI, you need hcwWinTVCI.dll in your "c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\" directory. It needs to be exactly that path, not some other install directory.

With the TechoTrend devices, you need to have ttBdaDrvApi_Dll.dll in the GBPVR directory.

Yeah, I know, but it unfortunately did not work with TT Connect CT-3650 CI.

Ok, I'll take your word for it.

I've only tested it with the budget range of cards, ie 150x etc.

I dont think NPVR likes my diseq multiswitch - as i cannot get it to switch sources. I currently have 5 satellites going into my multiswitch - and GBVPR can switch between them perfectly Smile - however with NPVR ive not have any luck getting it to switch at all Sad

Hi Sub,

I see on the hauppauge forum - you mention using the wintv-ci with irdeto.

Just wondering what CAM you are using exactly? - as ive come across a few articles that seem to suggest that not all CAMS will work with wintv-ci. That and the fact if you have a certain CAM working with GBPVR , why reinvent the wheel, id be pretty keen to find the brand/model your using and see if i can source one.

I currently have an old Xcam Premium that i bought several years ago for my Topfield STB - and it works fine in that, but not so much luck with GBPVR (or winTV7 for that matter).

I could have wintv7/gbpvr viewing a fta channel on Optus C1 and as soon as I insert the cam - it halts the pics/sound. If i try to change/refresh that channel i get "no signal" - however the signal returns once i remove the cam. Even the GBPVR logs say round the bit where it does the tuning that the signal is 0 with the cam in the wintv-ci and a much higher number when the cam is not inserted. Seems to me the xcam is definitely causing some sort of conflict or incompatibility.

Given that I took a bit of a leap of faith getting the wintv-ci to start with - id rather not make it a double wammy and get a cam that is incompatible. Im thinking id get one of the regular irdeto cams from one of the online NZ satellite resellers - but would just be nice to know if the cam you have is the same model.

thanks in advance - and sorry for all the questions Smile

I've attached a picture of my Irdeto CAMs below. All were purchased from Europe. I've never used any of them with a satellite system though. I've only used them with TelstraClear's DVB-C system, which uses Irdeto encryption.
