Automatic e-mail notification of updates/revisions

Sub or whomever it may concern,
Is it possible to have an automatic e-mail sent out to those who wish it notifying us of new releases, plugin updates, or GB-PVR updates? Or, if that is already in place, how do we go about joining such a list? Thanks!

This has come up a few times recently. Can anyone recommend any good, PHP based, easy to use mailing list software for these sorts of announcements?

At one time, I wrote a PHP script-lication to do this sort of thing using files as input (one file for the text of the email you were sending, another file with the list of addresses). No interface, but it worked pretty well. I had a friend use it for some targeted mass mailing projects (some might call it spam), and she was pretty happy with it.

If you wanted to use a database to store the addresses, it could be modified pretty easily. I suppose it could be modified with a web-based interface fairly easily, too.

What did you have in mind when you said "easy to use"?

Basically some that isnt going to become a development task in its own right, and wont consume too much time on my part.

I'm happy to send out new version notifications, but dont want it to come at the expense of my limited GB-PVR development time.

Sub, in the information forum, start a topic and lock it. Then those who are interested in it can "track" the topic and get notified when it changes - its a poor mans email list but does not require you to do anything.

Either way, I'm happy to share the mass mailing solution that I've developed. The only difficulty (if you want to call it that) would be in managing the recipient list. Otherwise, you'd just write a message in a text file, and run the program.
