I've only ever tested it with the common xvid/divx variety of AVI file. You may have less luck with AVI files that come from DV cameras or digital camera.

You can always play around with ffmpeg to try any get it working for converting to MPEG format, then update the command line in config.xml to match.

Already reported: When I select "transcode" (to divx of xvid), the file changes to 0 bytes. My original file is gone.

I attached just a small avi-file for you to test yourself. I on the fly decoding not possible with this file type?

This is because you were in essence transcoding from avi to avi and you overwrote the good one with a failed transcode. You effectively deleted the file...

I have a Sony that creates huge AVI's too. I have tweaked and tweaked the transcode settings, (which would transcode-on-the-fly for viewing on the MVP) and I have not been able to do it in real-time.. Therefore, I transcode to MPG beforehand...

A quick note: Although divx or xvids are most common for downloading off the Internet, the format you really want your Canon AVIs in, so you can view them on the MVP, is MPG.

My Utility, ZProcess can take a whole directory full of DV-AVIs from a digital camera, and transcode them to an MPG file, that would be easier to watch on the MVP...

Once you have ZProcess installed: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/ZProcess

Then you just have to select the Transcode Profile (from the Transcode Tab) and select the directory with your DV-AVIs and press 'Do All'

(This would all make sense if you decided to install ZProcess and read the wiki page...)

Good luck

Just looked at your video file you've attached. It not in DV-AVI format but rather Mjpeg...

Sorry to get your hopes up. FFMpeg, MEncoder or ZProcess won't be able to help you with your MJPEG style of video files...

AFAIK Quicktime pro can transcode Mjpeg based files, and all other programms that can use quicktime underneath (like Autodesk Cleaner, Sorenson Squize)
