So I've updated to the latest version of GBPVR (0.99.5) and am seeing the same thing I was in the previous version. Basically some stutter and fuzzy viewing on both Live TV and Recordings.

I've reverted quartz.dll which did help some but not really enough to my liking. The CPU hovers around 20% when watching live TV. My machine consists of:

2.93GHz CPU
1GB RAM
Asus A9550 Video Card
250GB HDD

I recently tried the Omega display drivers instead of ATI but got no display post install.

I've tried Cyberlink, Intervideo, and Elecard video decoders to no avail. The fuzziness and stuttering are especially noticeable when watching sports when there is constant movement. However, if I pause in Time Shift Mode, and then FF back to live, when I'm FF'ing the picture looks outstanding... pretty much exactly how it should look when watching TV (except obviously too fast). Does this make sense? Is there something I'm missing?

Post a screenshot so we can see what it looks like.

What capture card are you using?

It'll almost certainly relate to the video decoder/render/video card that you're using particularly if you see any stuttering etc. though some people also find the MPEG2 encodings produced by their capture card doesnt meet their expectations.

You really need to decide if its a recording or a playback issue. Do the recordings look ok in any other player you've got? Do MPEG2 files recorded with the Hauppauge software, but played in GB-PVR look any better to you?

Also try switching to the Overlay video renderer.

Well, I just recently eliminated the MVP from the equation. Prior to that, picture quality was perfect. That would lead me to believe that it's not the capture card.

I am using Overlay renderer, forgot to mention that in my first post. I've also tried all of the other ones with no improvement.

If you've ruled out the recording part, then its got to be either the decoder (which is responsible for decoding each frame to ready for display) or the renderer (which is responsible displaying it on the screen) or the video card (which is responsible for showing the screen on your TV or monitor). There isnt any other bits that are involved that would make your picture fuzzy.

Yeah, I'll have to investigate my video card. I would think it's powerful enough, but maybe not. Thanks for the replies.

If your using the TV-out function of the video card, then this thread may help you (particularly post 8 in the thread).
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=16157

Also note video playback on the 9550 is really only suitable on display resolutions of 720x576 (PAL) of 720x480 (NTSC). Higher display resolutions are prone to video playback problems.

Wow, that's a great thread, thanks for the link! I haven't had much spare time to mess with this recently but it sounds like that's exactly the problem I'm experiencing.
