This looks like it could use GBPVR as a GBPVR client since it does run on various Windows OS's.

No, not quite. It's recognized as an external storage device and can read external files systems on various Windows OS's.

From what I can gather over at the AVS Forums, it uses a very limited linux kernel. There are a group of people actively trying to extend the firmware with some success, but so far it's still only functional as a stand-alone media player. A very nice one mind you, supporting HD, digital audio and internal storage via IDE HD, but stand-alone nonetheless.

I must say, I'm very tempted to buy one.

Oh yea, I had misundetstood the spec that said...

Interface & Others
Operating Systems Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP, MAC 9.0 higher Linux 2.4 higher

as meaning the OS for the MG-35. Now I see it means it interfaces with external devices running these OS's.

if someone can confirm that it does HD playback (from my ATI HDTV Wonder) ATSC... I'll be so buying this

edit: according to this thread - http://forums.snapstream.com/vb/showthre...360&page=2 - this thing will NOT play HD content, but it is able to upconvert standard streams to HD format.

They recommend this thing - http://www.digitalconnection.com/Product...xM5000.asp, but it is $350 dollars... i could probably build a new GBPVR machine for that - or at least buy a capable one on ebay.

What would be cool is if an MVP emulator (based on MVPMC perhaps) could be written for the MG-35. Then the MG-35 could display all the GBPVR menus, plugins etc.

Yeah, it appears that the MG-35 upscales which is pretty misleading, but the MEDIAGATE MG-350HD does do HD. http://www.airlinktek.com/english/prod_mg350.htm
