Is the Hauppauge PVR 350 the only tuner card with tv out that works with GB PVR?

Are there any other pci tuner cards with tv video out built into the card that work with GB PVR?
Looks like the MyHD MDP-130 card has hardware tv video out, but is not supported.

The PVR 350 hardware video out is so far superior to the graphics card video out (and has a couple other advantages as well) that I will definetly be using it with GBPVR.
I don't care that it doesn't work with the youtube pluging, I'd rather have the better picture quality.

Not able to find any tuner cards that are supported by GBPVR (Sub) and still have hardware video out.

BTW I've tried a few other pvr programs and GB PVR is the best by a long shot, no contest.

You used to be able to use the XCard and PVR350 as specialist output devices, but due to serious limitations and driver problems with these devices I no longer support them. I stopped supporting them nearly two years ago.

Thanks - I'm trying to use what I have rather then investing in a full blown media center solution, without sacrificing video quality. The TV out on a PC video card doesn't make the grade. The goal being to have video quality as good or better then a discreet pvr box. Video quality being the prime concern, other features nice to have but not critical. I really like the weather and calendar plugin, and the skinning features are outstanding. These work ok with the PVR 350.


I've found the tv (analog) output on both a nvidia 5900 and ati x850 unacceptable. This is to be expected, after all it's made to drive a pc monitor and the tv out is probably not used by 95% of the people who buy them, so it's implemented as cheaply as possible. The techie types hook it up to the tv to impress the spouse--significant other or friends and never use it again .

I'm sure the fully digital (dvi) output would be the best solution otherwise, plus HD will fully replace ntsc in a few years I suppose as well, even though Most programming is currently SD right now. However this is the best solution for me right now however and I'm happy the PVR 350 works with GB PVR. It's a very good fit for my particular situation. As an added bonus I can still run dual monitors and live television plus record a program at the same time, with trivial (about 5%) cpu usage, no significant stuttering on a 2.6 ghz system. This is with a PVR 350 + PVR 150mce.

I would recommend this combination but only for the more advanced techie.

I'll be adding a firefly remote for the PC and MVP for the living room tele and calling it quits at that point for a while. Hadn't planned on spending this much time (or money) setting up a PVR on my PC, but the GB PVR versatility + plugins just sucked me in, :eek:. It has been quite interesting. Kudos to Sub and the plugin developers. And yeah I'll be making a $$ contribution once I get the hardware paid for. So I better get back to work...

I've got a cheap Nvidia PCI 6200 in Overlaymode & using the Purevideo decoder & I honestly can't tell the difference between my PC & my DVD player when outputting a DVD to an SD TV.

Which shocked the heck out of me.
I really only had to adjust the color settings in the decoder to get a great picture.

I also used a good sheilded & gold plated S-video cable.
I also use an ATI 9550 with a component out dongle for my main TV & the picture for that is great also when it comes to DVD's.

Live TV is not a good as the direct feed off the satelite when compared side to side, however if I walk away from the TV & come back I can't really tell if it's the STB or the PC.

if you don't care for the occasional crashes: be happy as long as it works
if you've gotten your share of crashes and want something stable, take a look at this thread, particulary about the g400

So far it's been quite stable, no crashes, I'm happy. I'll post a reply if that changes. This setup has some of the best picture quality I've see on component video output.

I realize a component video connection is the least desirable, s-video is better and DVI/HDMI is currently the best quality connection. But many SD TV's have only component inputs.

Never bothered to see what chipset the PVR 350 it uses, if anyone is interested I'll post it.

I should add that I'm not using the FM tuner on the PVR 350. I was having poor signal quality on the higher cable channels, but discovered that disconnecting the FM antenna fixed that for the most part. Probably connecting an FM trap to the FM antenna input would clear up any residual noise, I don't plan on listening to FM radio on the TV.

I agree that the PVR350 has a very high quality tv out - much better than any regular video card and decoder combination I've tried, but the severe problems with its drivers that cause machine lockups for about 50% of users, and limitations that wouldnt allow it to do DVD playback etc combine to ruin it. Its a pity it didnt live up to the promise it offered.

Long ago I decided it was just not worth pursuing support for this device given lockups and reboots that would occur for many. Since dropping support for it, I havnt purposely done anything to stop it working, but I also dont develop new features for it and dont test new releases on it.

I fixed all those bug with one simple trick.

When my pc wake up to record , it's just shutting down windows and restarting again from scratch, never had problems with pvr350 after that.

Does the lastest version of gbpvr still work with the pvr350 tv out ?

I use an ATI 9550 which has DVI out, and I found one was that was fanless to boot for like $20 bucks. It has a beautiful picture.

Its not that simple. You'd would have been one of the lucky few that had a motherboard without PVR350 compatibility issues. If you had the problem, your machine would lockup all the time without anything you could do about it - changing channels, returning to the main menu after watching a video etc...

Does the lastest version of gbpvr still work with the pvr350 tv out ?

I havnt tried it myself, but others have indicated it still works.
