I haven't played with all the available plug-ins, but I looked at all of them, and I tried our ML2, and it doesn't seem like any music plug-ins follow my way of thinking. I want a directory based music library plug-in that will allow me to randomize any directory and which will include all subdirectories in that random playlist. The reason for this is simple, I have my music in D:\music\, there I have directories for genres, then in each genre I have a directory for the artist, in there a directory for the album, and finally the music. This is a great way to track my library, find things easily, and get to exactly the type of music that I want to play. Sometimes I want to here They Might Be Giants, and so I would go into the TMBG directory and play a random list from all the album directories. Other times I want to hear random songs off of Severe Tire Damage, so I go to just that one album, or I might want to hear all my rock music, so I would expand out to the rock directory and hear it all...

So does anyone have a plugin that will work this way? If not, anyone planning on one and need a beta tester? I can't program (beyond web languages), but I can try stuff out... Smile

Is there any reason why you couldn't get ML2 to work the way you describe above? I'm assuming your music is tagged.

ML2 would give me directory lists. It gave me a list of every artist on my machine at once, which is hundreds of artists, and then under that it gave me individual songs, no album level. Perhaps I set it up wrong, but when I went back to read about it, it says in the wiki that it is supposed to function directory-less...

yeah, but if you're look for x album from y artist then it's designed to work like that - select the artist, then right then scroll down the albums, then right again for the titles.

Also by default you can switch to album view (blue button or ctrl-b) and then to genre.

Failing that doesn't something like Music Albums work as you want?

This is more or less what the Music Player plug-in does. See http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/MusicPlayer

The Music Player did the trick. From the wiki description of it, I didn't think that it would support multiple directory levels like I have my system set up, but now that I've tried it it does exactly what I wanted it to do. If anyone is looking for a music player for an organized collection with multiple levels of directories, this is the one... Thanks for the help!

See this thread about a missing .mdb file you might encounter.
