Check Mdac in your registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DataAccess\FullInstallVer

Some of the newer capture cards don't really support win2k for drivers anymore, notably Hauppauge so that is a consideration depending on your setup.

I have been able to get vmr9 to work, but it's not very smooth on my system so I use vmr7 and that works fine. There was some question whether VMR7 or 9 could work with win2k at one point, but clearly it can.

I suspect if you have a winxp available it would be smoother and would give a better upgrade path for hardware but if you already have win2k give it a shot.
I checked my registry for the MDAC and I have ver. 2.53. I just checked and I need ver. 2.6 or higher. So, I'd have to upgrade. Is that an easy process? I was thinking of getting the Hauppauge HVR 1600 or ATI Theater Pro 650 so I guess I should find out if they have drivers for Win2K if I consider installing on Win2K, huh?

JBodin, I'm using Win2K Pro.

Not sure about the ATI card, but you should check out the following link about drivers for win2k pro for the HVR 1600.

http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?topic=10691.0

Basically there is one set of drivers for win2k pro with no support and if there is an issue you will have to email Hauppauge and get them to modify the drivers. Good luck...

I have a couple machines that are win2k pro and of course MS doesn't support an upgrade to XP home from the win2k pro version. If you want to go the upgrade path, you have to buy the XP pro upgrade.
I got my XP home for $25 after rebate. The best I can get XP pro upgrade is about $100.

Almost as good as what MS is doing to the Mac users of Vista now.

Just adding my two cents, I've got it running on Windows 2000 Server with a Hauppauge 150. No problems at all. My system is set to use VMR9, someone mentioned it wouldn't work above, but I've had no problems. (Not that I even know what VMR is!)

My system will run VMR9 but it isn't very smooth. My video card supports dx9 but for whatever reason (decoder, cpu, video card, loose nut behind the wheel) it's not as good as VMR7 on my setup. It also uses a lot more CPU cycles on my setup too. VMR7 (video mixing renderer) is based on directx 7.0, VMR9 is based on directx9.

I have had success with Win2kPro... MDAC + DX9 +net2.0 needed to be installed to get setup to run, but it has worked just fine.
