Team,
I am looking to play VOBs on my MVP. I've installed VLC, and the xDVD plugin. I edited the xml and all looks good. However, when I cruise to a VOB in GBPVR and click on one, nothing happens. I also tried an .ifo file, and same thing. I have the fixed DLL that was posted in another thread installed and I'm not getting errors. Can someone help an xDVD n00b? Here's my XML.

<settings>
<TempFile>c:\temp\dvd.mpg</TempFile>
<PlayMode mode="SIZE" value="150"/>
<DVDDrive>d</DVDDrive>
<BaseFileDirectory>e:\media\video\dvds</BaseFileDirectory>
<MountDVDDrive>d</MountDVDDrive>
<ForceMvpMode>true</ForceMvpMode>
</settings>

Thanks much.

:confused:

i think you have it set to encode 150 megs before it will start playing...which is a bit high if you have a decent system...
you can also use "TIME" and set it to seconds [or was it minutes?]
but really just lowering that to around 50 megs should pop it up sooner..

otherwise it may be your vlc settings or path...check to make sure it's in the same path as is in the batch files...[notably the playmvpdvdfiles.bat]
also i'm not sure it will allow playing a vob..it's really made to view the main movie of a dvd only, in which case you must specify the correct title to play on each dvd...[usually 1 but it varies widely with each dvd]

do you see the numbers start counting down at the top of xdvd?
otherwise look into vlc and it's options in the batches..

personally i use mencoder batch files as it performs better and gives proper timelines..[unlike vlc!] so watching and skipping work during transcode..
look thru the xdvd thread and you'll find mencoder batch file examples..

Thanks much PBS. I'll lower the time setting and see if that helps. I'm currently running a P4 with around 2.4ghz of horsepower (I may need to update my profile). I'll give it a go and report back.

I haven't tried the "encode 50" yet. I checked the paths and the batch files and they match up correctly as far as where VLC is installed.

I don't see a counter at all....so I double-checked my DVD movie. I ripped my Gladiator DVD and then re-authored with DVD Shrink to yank the main movie with only the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. Its a dual-layer disc, so ended up in the neighborhood of 6.5GBs. I created a folder called Gladiator on my server's Video directory, and then copied the DVD folders there.

Am I not supposed to be clicking on the VOBs? I tried clicking on the IFO file, then tried clicking on the first VOB in the set (there's like 6 VOBS that comprise the main, reauthored movie). No timer, just nothing happens.

Is there a log file I can look at to see if there is anything obvious that I dorked up?

Don't click on VOBs. When navigating within XDVD, stop at the directory just above the VIDEO_TS directory (usually the movie name appears here).

For example, stop at [GLADIATOR].

Ah, that was it! I clicked on the upper-level folder, and bingo, it started working. Ok, now that I see thats how its done its very cool. Works super-well. I'm really surprised Hauppage doesn't do something like this with their software. Its great stuff! Thanks much to all for the assistance.
