you'd prbably need to post some information as to where you are for anyone to help you as different countries have different methods.

Most people in the UK use the the XMLTV grabber from http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/

There tons of info on the wiki http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki

You can either use windows to schedule your xmltv grabber to run at some time each day, or you can create a UpdateEPG.bat file in the gb-pvr directory and run it from there. GB-PVR automatically calls this batch file prior to the epg update.

I'm sorry but after loads of reading I'm still confused about this!

My EPG source is a file that is created by this simple batch file:
Code:
cd c:\xmltv
xmltv tv_grab_na_dd --days 12 --output tvguide.xml

Then of course the 'tvguide.xml' file is what GB-PVR uses to load the TV Guide. Currently I run the above 'get.bat' manually and I want to automate this, which I know I can do by various means.

But... by what mechanism does GB-PVR re-read the tvguide.xml?

Is there an elegant way to tell GB-PVR to periodically read the latest tvguide.xml file that I've created? Maybe the answer is "rename your get.bat to UpdateEPG.bat and then set the time in the Config/Capture window "EPG Update at <time>"? I guess I will try this next, but still, when does GB-PVR actually ABSORB the new guide info? See I told you I was confused!

If you want GB-PVR to initiate "xmltv tv_grab_na_dd" immediately prior to it reads tvguide.xml, then yes you can do exactly that.

It'll automatically re-read the tvguide.xml file at the time specified in the config app, regardless of whether you'd run it from Update.bat or some schedule job or manually. Alternatively you can run the Update EPG function in the system screen to manually initiate an EPG update (which re-reads this file).

Wow, an instant response! This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks.

I think I will let the retrieval command run at the update time, and set the update time at 4pm or thereabouts, to give zap2it the best chance to know what evening schedule changes might have occurred.

Thanks again sub. Smile
