Nice! I don't think I can take advantage of that though. I don't have any QAM tuners. At least I don't think my TV can. I will definitely check though.

needless to say.. I went back to Dishnetwork and get approx 250 channels with HD for $79/mo ... much much better value...

SniperDude:

Not surprised, Comcast (and AT&T) like to make it sound like you're getting some sort of great deal.....then bamo!! I had Comcast broadband for a number of years and when the came to my door selling Cable TV I said "sounds good - what's the bundled price"......the guy looked at me like I was from another planet.....that was a few years ago before someone over there woke up one morning and said "hey, if we bundle our services we can charge more for our services and make it sound like we're giving this stuff away.....bwaaahhahahaha"

I do actually here - I also have Dish and also have DishPVR. I'd love to drop the PVR part and just use GBPVR. The answer I haven't been able to find on on the forums is - can I receive and record all of my Dish channels (not worried about HD channels since I'm not subscribing to those) using GBPVR and a capture card??

Ideally I'd like to get a couple more MVPs (currently have one), and split off one more TV from the Dish Cable in my attic.

I'm a newbie at GBPVR but pretty technically astutute when it comes to PCs, etc.

Be interested in what your experience has been and what capture cards or other hardware would be recommended.

Thanks,

Yes, I do it all the time. I have a Dish Network tuner that I use with GBPVR. You'll need an analog capture card (most use PVR150's), and an IR Blaster (to change channels on the dish receiver). Then you run either s-video, composite, RF (in order best video quality) from the tuner to the capture card.

I had the bright idea of getting a dual tuner dedicated for GBPVR, but found out that the dual tuners (at least Dish Networks) use UHF (ie. radio frequency) on the second tuner (TV2), so you can't IR Blast the second tuner, only the first one. I have to use timers for the second tuner, so I usually only record recurring shows on it.

Bear in mind that when adding more MVPs, that you'll want to make sure that you have the same number of STBs available as you have MVPs (if you want to watch live TV on all of them at the same time).

Very cool - thanks much for the response!!

Now on the dual tuner thing - I could be wrong on this, but I thought I saw a post on satelliteguys.com that dealt with this issue. You might want to read this post:

Thanks...though I'm quite familiar with Satelliteguys. Actually, my issue isn't recording from TV2, it's having a computer change the channels that's the problem. My request for a UHFBlaster stumped them too Sad
