I just recently built a new computer and am trying to get GB-PVR set up on it the way I had it on my old computer.

I'm using an ATI TV Wonder Elite, and that has Cyberlink Power Cinema software included. Power Cinema is awful software though, so I wasn't even going to bother installing it this time around, I was just going to install the drivers and the ATI remote control.... which is what I did. Everything seems to operate cleanly, I can change channels without trouble, audio plays smooth, but the video remains a black screen saying "Next Recording: (none scheduled)" in GB-PVR.

I did try running BDA MuxChecker, and as it said: "NO MULTIPLEXER FILTERS WHERE FOUND ON YOUR MACHINE. GB-PVR will not function correctly unless you have WinXP SP1 or higher, which has a built-in DVR-MS mux filter." I assumed that that was the problem.

After searching the net a bit I found comments about mux filters needed, and downloaded and set up these guys so that the MuxChecker would recognize them:

It didn't work though.

I really didn't want to install Power Cinema, since when I had it on my other computer I couldn't quite get it to leave well alone, as it was constantly taking over things I wanted GB-PVR to handle........ but I gave up, and did install it, thinking that that would solve my problem and I'd live with the drawbacks, but it didn't solve the problem.

I would have originally guessed some kind of codec problem, but when I ran the Tuning Assistant all of my channels were recognized. I can see the video in there clear as day as it scans for channels, but when I head back into GB-PVR everything is dead.

I need help, I don't know what to try next.

The recording list used for this 'next recording' panel is only reloaded every ten minutes or so. I'm sure if you'd restarted GB-PVR or waited a few minutes it would have updated.

You dont need a mux with an analog card like your ATI TV Wonder Elite.

Do you have a video decoder installed? What video decoders are listed on the playback tab of the config app?

I did restart it several times, and have restarted on multiple occasions too, I think. I didn't leave it open for very long though any of those times........... Unfortunately the cable is out right now, and I can't give it another go.

Under "Software MPEG-2 Playback" and "Video Decoder" it says "System Default" with the only drop down option being that: System Default......... Does that mean I'm missing something?

From ATI's CD I could install:

RIO Wonder Drivers
ATI Parental Control
DirectX
ATI Remote Wonder
GuidePlus+
Power Cinema

I did install the drivers and the remote, and already had DirectX installed. GuidePlus+ is just their TVGuide app, so that shouldn't matter.... and I can't imagine that the Parental Controls would make any difference. Power Cinema is their main app.... but I hate the darn thing. Do I have to install it just to get the video decoders?........... I did try installing it before after I had already added GBPVR though, and it didn't seem to work.

I don't know. I don't really have a clue, I'm just talking Smile

It means you most likely dont have an MPEG2 decoder installed. A couple of decent free ones are:

Hey, thanks for the reply. I couldn't test that out until now because my cable has been out for weeks........ but it is somewhat better now. Now I get channels, but it's still unwatchable because it's all flickery with two images. Any idea what might cause that?

Try different combinations of video decoder and video renderer. It must be in there somewhere.

I was able to get it using the MPV one and a different renderer. Thanks!
