Tipstir,

Could you tell us more?? Are you really using 1.41 & if so where can we get it? What mod's did you do to the server etc.? How is boot-up time etc.?

I have updated the link in the first message to include a new dongle.bin 1.1.57 that Hauppauge is now distributing as Vista compatible.

As B1ackh013 mentioned there is a new Hauppauge dongle 1.1.58 contained in a new beta. I have placed it on my Hauppauge dongle page linked in the first message.

For more information see

FWIW I tried 1.1.58. It has an OSD in the dongle. So in addition to the GBPVR OSD you get a Hauppauge OSD. Both are at the bottom of the screen, but sometimes one is on top of the other. The Hauppauge OSD lasts longer than the GBPVR OSD, so you see it under the transparent GBPVR OSD as well as after the GBPVR OSD is gone.

Makes the dongle useless.

That's intersting. I haven't seen this at all. Not knowing the ins and outs of GBPVR and the MVP, I'll defer to someone who knows a little more on debugging them as far as this problem goes.

I will mention that I have had a few problems - but not nearly as many as I used to have. There are times where there is a delay after pushing a button on the remote. When this happens, it seems to cache up to two button pushes, the third will reset the MVP; the current solution seems to be "don't push too many buttons". Kind of flaky, but it works. I also have some problems with occassional freezing. Happens more with XVids and Divx files than with MPEG-2 files...I'm guessing because of the compression. It also happens more over time when the server hasn't been restarted. A restart once a week or so seems to make this fairly minimal. If you are interested in playing music from the server, I get a lot of freezing here (30 second delays or so). I don't use this a lot, so it doesn't bother me too much. I will also mention that all of my music is encoded as .ogg files, so that could have something to do with it as well.

So, it still isn't perfect (on my setup at least), but it is at least tollerable now.

Ogg, xvid and divx are formats the MVP cannot play natively, so they have to be transcoded "on the fly" . That makes it difficult/impossible to ff and skip forward. The only formats The mvp can play are: mp2, mp3 (audio), mpg (video), jpg (pict). So anything else has to be transcoded first on the server, on the fly or (manual) before starting the play.

mvpmc does supports native ogg (actually vorbis audio a better description) so emulation mode could do it , but for purely selfish reasons I want sub to add native FLAC support first. One step at at time.

The remote lookup is the big problem that I have with all the Hauppuage dongles on Vista, it much more pronounced and frequent then with mvpmc and does lead to disconnects too. What makes it worse is these lockups happen on all flavours of Windows do if you want to use a Hauppauge dongle with 2000/XP I would strongly reccommend using the one sub distributes.

OrakelJos mentioned there is an updated Hauppauge dongle 1.1.59 found at ftp://ftp.hauppauge.com/Support/MediaMVP/Beta/

I have placed it on my Hauppauge dongle page linked in the first message but I did not test it. It is dated 2008-04-21
