I'll update this post in 45 minutes when my current recording stops. I'm fairly sure it does suspend with just the menu up - it certainly does when the MVP is sat just on a menu.

I've had my system go into standby with defrag running, so I haven't a clue what Microsoft considers "idle".

I can confirm the server went into standby with the gbpvr menu sat on the screen, And the MVP sat on the main menu.

That worries me a bit- have you ever found that the system has gone into standby during a recording, or while it was being used to watch TV? It sounds like that could happen?

No because sub sends requests to windows to stay awake - or whatever the correct terminology is when recording and playing back.

Correct. While recording, GB-PVR periodically notifies Windows that the system is still in use.

After a couple of days of testing, I can confirm that GBPVR is successfully waking for recordings. I am now using Windows power management to put the machine into standby, and that has been fine so far. Thanks for the help guys, it's much appreciated.

Let me just ask as a finale to this topic...

My computer doesn't seem to wake for recordings when I put it into standby manually, BUT if I set Windows power management to go into standby after 15 minutes lets say, then the computer will wake itself for a recording?

It shouldn't matter how the computer went into standby. If it's not waking, then it's not working. Chances are either the power management in your BIOS isn't set right, your motherboard doesn't support the feature, or you haven't checked the Wake machine option on the Capture Sources tab.

Mine does exactly the same, most noticably when manually put into standby close to when a recording is due (whilst testing things out). I just let windows shut it off now.

p.s. that check tab in config is waking for EPG update rather than for recordins.
