Hi all just a quicky.

I bought the wrong card (hauppage Nova s-plus) for what i want to achieve i.e.
watch freeview satalite channel and watch terestrial through my ariel and be able to watch/record different channel at the same time. (i figured the s-video input would allow me to watch TV through my video recorder and allow me to back up videos on to dvd, but can't get it to work)

So I need to get another card namley the Hauppauge 3000. this is a triple tuner but i need to know if it will do the above at the same time, so only one card needed?

Many thanks in advance

The analog side of this card and the HVR3000 both lack the required hardware MPEG2 encoder, so are not compatible with GB-PVR. You can use the digital side though.

This device does contain two tuners. I'm fairly sure one is for analog/DVB-T and the other is for DVB-S, so in theory you should be able to do DVB-T and DVB-S at the same time (two recordings or 1 recording/1 live tv). We dont have DVB-T transmissions here in NZ yet, so its not something I've been able to test.

GOD YOUR GOOD. Speediest replies ever, I suppose it helps if your on the same side of the world. But still...Big Grin

I did read the wiki and found this:
Hauppauge HVR-3000 is actually a Triple Tuner with analog support (software only). For GBPVR use it has effectively only two H/W tuners, DVB-T and DVB-S as observed in sub’s v98.13 change.log release notes. The same applies to the HVR-4000. Note as per this post and this thread that while it lacks a hardware encoder for the Analog side, the v98.13 release notes observe (an exception to the general rule) the analog side WILL work natively in GBPVR provided SoftPVR is installed as GBPVR re-uses some of those components. Note though that the analog part does require some additional CPU resources over those that are purely hardware based MPEG2 Encoder cards on the analog side

But just wanted to know if it was a "Real" dual tuner, which you've answered, thanks.

But assuming the above is correct and analogue is supported (i realise software encoding isn't ideal but if its only for six months or so until DVB-T comes online i can cope i think, AMD semperon 3000+, 1gb ram) will i be able to watch analogue while recording DVB-S?

you will not be able to watch analog tv within gbpvr while recording
infact you will not be able to watch analog at all within gbpvr

no hardware encoding for analog means the card will not work
(that said there is a way to do it but from what i have read but no one can get it going ie they sound issues or other problems so dont waste your time)

That bit is wrong. Its a dual tuner device.

I did experiment with software encoding in that release, but it only ever worked really badly, and usually resulted in the video and audio being out of sync. Because of this, I think its best to consider the analog side of this device as unusable in GB-PVR.
