Hey

I'm brand new to GBPVR and I have a hauppauge PVR 150 with 3 composite inputs, I bought this one specifically so I could hook up my VHS camcorder to it to convert it to MPEG2 which is what my hauppauge outputs.

My main question is how do I record video from the composite inputs on my card from a VCR or VHS camcorder? Or is this even possible with GB PVR?

thanks

What I usually do is plug the camcorder into my vcr and play my recording through it. The vcr is plugged into my pvr 150 using coaxial cable. My vcr is set up to play recordings on channel 3 when it is hooked up to my tv, so I use GBPVR to record on channel 3. I actually do a "Manual Recording" (i.e. I'm not recording a specific show. I just want to record a certain channel for a specified amount of time), and set the time frame I want to record (i.e. 1 hr, 2 hrs, etc). Once the recording is done you can use any video editor to trim off the end of the recording. I don't know that this is the best way to do it, but this is what works for me.

oh god thanks, i never thought about doing that. My camcorder actually hooks into the battery charger (which has composite and coaxial outputs) and I can set that to either channel 3 or 4.

Doesn't matter if it works but I just need to get to editing because I'm using it for class and I dislike the schools minidv camcorders, I can only use them with the macs at school and I'm on PC's here.

But thanks that will work out good.

The problem with running the signal through the RF input is that you will lose quality. You're apt to be much happier feeding the composite signal from the camcorder straight into the PVR-150. What you need to do with GB-PVR is set up a capture device that points to the composite input, and define a channel that doesn't overlap with your regular tuned channels (it may let you use channel 1). The device number will be the same as you defined for regular channel recording.

Then you can do a manual recording from that channel, and GB-PVR will be forced to use the composite input.

I just use WinTV2000 (Hauppauge software inlcuded with the PVR-150) for recording from my VCR. It lets you define which input to use on the PVR-150 and brings up a nice control panel for starting, pausing, and stopping the recording.

Thanks guys, I was having some troubles running from the coaxial, GBPVR would freeze up and I could view the video in media center (i know it sucks) but I couldn't capture the video. I'll try out wintv2000 and then the GBPVR settings.

Thanks guys great suggestions
