Win2k and PVRX2

Just as a reference, I am runing Win2k-sp4 with a NVidia 7600GS card with the 93.71 drivers (DX9.0c) and I can run the PVRx2 interface. I have the Hauppauge hcwSMD07 filter/decoder installed (comes with the HVR-1600 cards).

The filter/decoder can be a problem since many of the Win2k compatible mpeg filters that come with DVD players are insufficient for VMR9 (I think).

Are you using some variety of VNC to access the computer when you're getting these "Doesn't support VMR9" errors? In my experience, those errors appear when UltraVNC is active, and disappear when it is not active. Maybe something about its "video hook" driver reports an incompatibility with VMR9 that doesn't come up when you're accessing the machine directly.

I'm not sure if this info is worthy of a new thread so I'll just post it here.

To avoid VMR9 error messages while using VNC make sure that the vnc video hook driver (also called mirror driver) is not installed. This driver comes with UltraVNC by default--I'm not sure about other flavors of VNC. Both of my GB-PVR machines work fine with VNC if I do not have this driver installed.

Thankfully UltraVNC provides a start menu shortcut to uninstall the driver, so the fix is easy.
