I use several, and often switch around the decoder as I'm testing. The GPU percentage above were using the MPV decoder for standard def filer. I just checked the Cyberlink decoder for the same file, and it was giving me 12% GPU. The ffdshow decoder gave me 16%. The HCW MPEG-2 Video Decoder gave me 47% GPU, but was still smooth.

I dont think 50% GPU sounds like a problem. After all, the aim is to get the video card doing the work that the CPU would otherwise have to do.

Agreed, although I find the amount high for SD. I'll check out other players to see the difference, and then the ugly task of finding out why it spikes to 100%. From what I see the stutter is caused by the spike. Does that sound accurate? I don't know much about video rendering so I'm hoping you can shed some light.

Thanks again.

Yes. I could make mine stutter every second or two by by using a deinterlacing method other than Weave (which used 50%). I could use other than Weave if I lowered the resolution with it, but at 1600x1200 it would max.

I first "fixed" the problem by just using Weave, and then later "fixed" the problem by getting a different video card. With the first card, I purposely tried turning off all hardware acceleration, but it was still doing this, so that's probably the oddest part.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

A couple of other things come to mind since the main task is to move data from the disk to the video output... Are you using a firewall? Some of them really slow down disk access. If you're running one, you could try disabling it to see if the video runs smooth. Also check to be sure that your drive is using DMA mode. I've seen XP "decide" to turn off DMA access, which causes all kinds of problems.

On a clear disk, you can seek forever...

I have not installed any 3rd party firewall, and I'm pretty sure I disabled Windows Firewall on XP (I have a dual boot system with XP and Vista to try out both OS's). I'll verify the firewall in both OS's.

My drives are using DMA Mode.

One other thing I noticed last night is the following. I started up Process Explorer, RivaTuner's Hardware Monitoring and DPC Latency Checker and then started up GBPVR. When these are loaded I get constant tiny stutters. They don't last very long but are still noticeable. Once I close all of those tools, the "small stutters" are a lot less frequent. I tested this in Vista but will test in XP, hopefully tonight. I will also test starting those up one at a time to see if one of them is causing the stutters, or if it's the combination of all 3 running.
