Hello everyone! I've been trying to capture video from my analog video camera using my capture card for weeks now, and I feel that I'm finally getting close to being able to do it but I'm not quite there.

I have a "Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture" card, and I've been connecting my camera to it by the composite and audio inputs. After experiencing numerous errors and trying many different programs to capture the video, the GBPVR software was one of a few recommended to me to try and capture the video, since the WinTV software was not included with my computer (I got the computer with the card already in it).

Anyway, my question is, using GBPVR, is there anyway I can manually start and stop recording a "channel", without setting a recording time? As I was playing around I set the program to record my video camera input from 3:40-4:40 or something, and while I suppose I can make this timed thing work if I needed to, it'd really be much easier for me to record only what I need.

Is there anyway I can do this? I'm very sorry if I'm being vague, but I have searched quite a few times through the forum already and didn't find anything. I'm not sure if, at this point, it'd be of any use, but here is a link to my conversation on another forum that may provide more information.

Thank you in advance, and again, I'm sorry if I'm being vague. I'm trying very hard to be helpful, but just let me know if there's anything else I can do. Smile

To be honest, you're better off downloading WinTV from the Hauppauge website to do this sort of things. GB-PVR is more centered around recording shows, or start/stop times etc. It'd make things awkward for dubbing off tapes etc.

Yes, but only if its a WDM source that constructs it's graph a certain ways, and output MPEG2 data. Some common examples of WDM devices that do work are the Hauppauge PVR150, 250 etc.

There is some plugins that people have written to try to use other types of devices, but I dont really know anything about them.

I'll have to try WinTV again. Everytime I download it, it gives me an error of some kind. >.<

Anyways, thank you for your time. I appreciate you answering me. ^_^

Related question - if a person installs WinTV on the same PC as GBPVR (v1.1.5) is running on, will GBPVR and WinTV fight with each other?

I would like to capture video using the PVR-500 card, but I don't want to mess up my PVR either, since it works so well... (thanks, sub!!!)

Its ok to have them both installed. Its only a problem if you try to use them at the same time.
