I'm just finding my feet with all this so please excuse any stupid questions. With help, I got GBPVR working on my old PC (1G PIII, 768MB, Intel740 Video) using MVP video decoder, MPA audio decoder, VMR7 renderer and Cyberlink 5.0.0.1307 mux.

I know if "it ain't broke don't fix it", but, I kept seeing references to PVRX2 and VMR9, so, when I saw a very cheap Nvidia Riva TNT2 card on Ebay I thought I would try it out to see what this PVRX2 thing was all about.

Using the same settings as above all I now get with the new video card, while watching live TV, is jerky video, stuttering audio, 90+% cpu usage, and eventual system crash. I've tried a few other settings, to no avail, but before I give up and revert to the working combination can anyone suggest a morer methodical testing regime? In any case how does one explicitly start PVRX2? Does it start automatically when VMR9 is selected? If I start it from the start>All programs>GB-PVR>PVRX2 all I get is an empty window :confused:

Also, someone wrote that even though running GBPVR on the host PC, I could use PVRX2 on my MediaMVP? How do you set that up?

That sounds like a driver problem.

You start it correctly (you could also start it from the tray icon or by executing the PVRX2.exe file from the GBPVR directory). What do you mean by an empty window? Is that a black one? Sounds like VMR9 is not working properly. My best guess is still the driver problem.

If you start trying different drivers, don't forget to use a driver cleaner in between.

have never used a driver cleaner in my life! I could roll back with system restore. Is that OK?

The driver is what Windows XP found at start up. I can go to the Nvidia site to look for theirs.

I guess, but I don't know that for sure. I do know that just uninstalling a driver is typically not sufficient for nvidia. I originally had a lot of problems when I just uninstalled the old driver and the installed the new one.

That would be my suggestion, although from experience I know that the latest nVidia driver is not always the best.

The latest Nvidia drivers are even worse. Watching live TV crashed the whole PC straight away. I've gone back to the old video card and settings for the moment. Everything is OK.

sorry, but i'd guess you'll have no chance to get PVRX2 running with that card. god, that must be stone age? PCI? or is it allready AGP? i hope you've got paid to take that else put it in storage & sell it in 10-20 years at the local museum
see below the min recommended graphic card...

I used to have minimum hardware specs with the old GBPVR.exe user inteface, but I'm still collecting feedback to determine this for the new PVRX2.exe user inteface.

For standard definition video with PVRX2, I'd guess the minimum at:

- 1.2GHz PIII class CPU
- 512MB ram
- ATI 9250 or nvidia 5700.

Most of the mini/nano-itx boards use the poor performing VIA processors, and are well below what would be required. For example, the 1GHz C3 CPU used in the Via EPIA M10000 is about the equivalent of a PII 450Mhz.

I got everything back working with the old setup. Task Manager shows my cpu round about 50% most of the time. Am I pushing my luck even running GBPVR with this ancient PC?

Also, what about my last question. Is it possible to hava the PVRX2 giu on the TV via the MediaMVP while only running GBPVR on the host/server PC?

The "old" minimum system requirements (for gbpvr.exe) were PIII 1Ghz, so you are just there. Keep in mind though, sub has announced that gbpvr.exe is not actively developed and will be phased out in favor of pvrx2 in one of the upcoming releases.
