What is the difference between VMR9 and VMR9 Custom?

I have a problem where videos play fine in GBPVR using VMR9 but if I use VMR9 custom (in either GBPVR or PVRX2) then it is 'broken' - I get the left-hand third of the picture 3 times across the screen....

Prior to this happening I had a question which was...
Is there a reason why I can't use VMR9 with PVRX2 - I am setting up a new (under-powered!) machine and using GBPVR video (was) playing OK with VMR9 but was choppy using VMR9 Custom.

I have been messing about changing Video drivers & settings & MPEG decoders but the problem is 'stuck' - even reinstalling drivers/GBPVR etc doesn't seem to fix it...

thanks

VMR9 Custom uses the Direct3D features of your video card to display each frame to the screen.

Yes. The new PVRX2.exe user interface uses Direct3D for displaying everything on the screen, so has to also use Direct3D for displaying video.

OK - I thought VMR 9 used DX as well - anyway problem has gone away as I found that I could use EVR (thought it was Vista only), d'loaded .net 3.5 & working in PVRX2 with EVR on a Via Epia SP8000 (800 Mhz) using embedded graphics at 50-60% CPU!!! (OK - it coughs if the OSD comes up but you can't have everything!!!)

I'm not surprised you had problems with that. The recommended minimum is a PIII 1.2GHz CPU or higher. The CPU on these VIA boards is the equivalent of about a 500MHz Celeron processor - way too slow. Also the onboard video is pretty underpowered.

Anyway glad you found a mix that kind of works for you.
