Any ideas? It turns out I am getting the same error with mjpg. Both file types play fine in Media Player.

I have Quicktime Alternative and K-Lite Codecs.

By the way, what codec do you have installed to play MOV files in GBPVR?

I really can't help here, but I'm just curious for myself! Thanks.

I have Quicktime Alternative and K-Lite Codecs.

But ffmpeg apparently can't convert:

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg>FFmpeg -y -i K:\export\Photos\2007-2008-Brazil\2008-01-04_RaftingECascataDasBromelias\04-01-2008 9h30 104.mov -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 29.97 -s 352x240 -ar 48000 -f svcd c:\temp\test.mpg
FFmpeg version SVN-r7165, Copyright © 2000-2006 Fabrice Bellard, et al.

libavutil version: 49.1.0
libavcodec version: 51.25.0
libavformat version: 51.6.0
built on Nov 24 2006 18:53:03, gcc: 4.0.3
K:\export\Photos\2007-2008-Brazil\2008-01-04_RaftingECascataDasBromelias\04-01-2
008: I/O error occured
Usually that means that input file is truncated and/or corrupted.

But the file plays just fine in Media Player etc.

Correction: it converts fine from the cmd-line (the problem above was just the missing doublee quotes around the file name, which had spaces). Here:

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg>FFmpeg -y - "K:\export\Photos\2007-2008-Brazil\2008-01-04RaftingECascataDasBromelias\04-01-2008 9h30 104.mov" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 29.97 -s 352x240 -ar 48000 -f svcd c:\temp\test.mpg

Still, the MediaMVP reboots when I try to play the MOV. Ideas? Thanks.

Something highly suspicious in the log:

.movforcefailure ? Could that be the problem? What could be appending "forcefailure" to the file name?? I don't see any magic like this in config.xml.

This is becaquse the MVP cant play .mov files.

It only natively plays .mpg files, but it does have some built in logic to transcode AVI/DVR-MS/TS files. This doesnt apply to .MOV files though. These arent currently playable on an MVP. (though I've added something that may do it in the next release)

I thought GB-PVR would pipe non-native formats (such as MP4, etc) through ffmpeg? I mean, I can watch *.mp4 movies just fine on my MediaMVP/GB-PVR combo. I am guessing they are being transcoded on-the-fly via ffmpeg, right?

Why aren't MOV file being transcoded on-the-fly too? I have invoked ffmpeg explicitely from the cmd-line and can verify that it does run ok. So, why does the MediaMVP reboot? It should be getting the file in MPEG-2 format piped from ffmpeg, right? It should not even be aware that the original file was in MOV format. Just like my AVI files in MJPG - they play fine, transcoded to MPEG-2 via ffmpeg.

Did I miss anything? Does GB-PVR not pipe MOV files through ffmpeg? If not, how can I force it to, just like with AVI/MJPG , MP4 etc ?

Thanks,

marcio

No it doesnt. As I said above, it just doesnt try to do any transcoding for .mov files currently.

There is a small list of file types it will try to transcode, but .mov files isnt on that list. I've added it for the next release.

Oh bummer (hardcoded in the source code). Ok, next release then :-)

Thanks!

Sometimes it better to hardcode something to list of things that you test and know will work rather have to field a million support posts about things you havnt tested. (so no plans to remove this hardcoding, but I will add .mov to the list)
