System: Hauppage 1250, AMD 780G chipset, 5400+ CPU in Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI motherboard, 4g ram. XP/SP2 with all updates. Clean install for this new machine. Tried Hauppage drivers 4.1 and 4.2 beta.

Seeking the simplest installation, I chose the DVR-MS mux. GB-PVR creates dvr-ms files which can be viewed in both GBP-PVR and WM11, but there is no sound. I used the folder "show details" option to see if there is an audio track in the capture files; it shows none -- is this accurate?
Hauppage WinTV does have sound.

I tried to rule out a Dolby audio problem with an analog capture test, but GB-PVR appears unable to capture from analog on that card.
Other than the absence of sound, the digital files are clean, and it works with very low CPU usage -- 12-14% on both recording and playback.

I'm guessing you might need to install a decoder like AC3Filter.

Correct. This is a cheaper card that lacks the required hardware MPEG2 encoder.

That was it! I must say, I have mixed feelings about GB-PVR. Yes, it is a wonderful program. But, with the docs in the current state, it's really more of a statement by the guerrilla underground Smile.
Thanks for your excellent "guess." I'm surprised that googling did not turn it up.

There is a lot of decent documentation on the wiki (http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki).

The majority of problems seen here, including yours, related to the directshow decoder you're using. Commercial apps avoid majority of this sort of problem by licensing decoders ($$$) and including them in their distribution. I'm obviously not in a position to do this, so we have to get by with users running ten thousand different combinations of directshow files etc. On the positive side, I give better support than you'd get with most commercial apps.

You cant have looked too hard... two thirds of replies I make are suggesting the user tries a different decoder. Big Grin

I really did google "dvr-ms GP-PVR no sound", and varieties of such, and got no relevant hits. Part of this is a country problem. I suggest creating a "report form" so that users can supply the working configuration. Personally, I'd like to enumerate what my configuration is, but I don't have an authoritative list of what the variations are. This would fast-track users in each country for which a support exists.
Your support is excellent. But the wiki, unfortunately, lead me in the direction of looking at everything else before I posted. The entire process took two days, of which the first was a failed attempt to use XMLTV.
I applaud your work, and I will be sure to make a donation as soon as I confirm that an annoying hardware problem is solved. The motherboard HDMI board stops video output if the TV is switched to another input, making it impractical to use the box as an always-on recorder.
