Hello All,
I was trying out the cyberlink mpeg2 decoder that comes with the twinhan software mentioned in the thread about h.264 decoders http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=34684.
I noticed a very strange behavior, the osd never comes up and I noticed it seems to take longer to start playing the video like 5 to 10 sec vs the the near instantaneous that I get with the nvidia decoder.
Anyone have any Idea's as to why?
I really was liking the way it played the hidef 1080i stuff since that is what I have the most trouble with.

Older versions of the Cyberlink decoder dont support VMR9 by default, which results in the OSD not being visible, and the keys/mouse sometimes not working.

You can add an "EnableVMR9=1" registry setting to enable VMR9 support, but I cant remember the exact key name. Google should turn it up for you.

I think its HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\EnableVMR9=1 (DWORD)

Ok I got it figured out, the down side is that getting the osd to display reintroduced the stutter I was experiencing with 1080i video, oh well the search continues.
Thanks for the help

Before you added this "EnableVMR9=1" setting it was using the Overlay renderer instead of VMR9, so wasnt really the OSD that has introduced any stuttering, but rather that something isnt working as well with VMR9 as it was with the Overlay renderer.

I figured it was something to that effect, I can get 99% stutter free playback using fse but I when I try to use custom i get about 85-90% stutter free. Is there any way to get the same results as fse with out the exclusive part because I want to be able to use the new netflix plugin which doesn't work in fse mode.
I think I am going to try vista on a client box and see how it does using evr with hardware acceleration.
