Guys,

In trying to connect to GB machine using VNC, I get 720x576 which is Ok for TV but not much else.

I was considering using a 2nd monitor setupa at a higher resolution, but as I dont have a 2nd monitor , my graphics card (6800GT) wont recognise a monitor that does not exist.

I could make up a dummy vga cable, to fool the pc into thinking a monitor is connected. THis requires soldering and parts.

Are there any other s/w options?

What exactly are you trying to do over VNC?

General maintenance of the PC. I was intending to display GB menus and video on the TV (2nd monitor) and whilst the XP stuff on the primary monitor. The primary monitor is actually a dummy vga plug. I could then use VNC to connect to the primary monitor which has been setup with a higher resolution.

In doing this, I can use a higher resolution and refresh on VNC without impacting the TV. I have herd it is not advisable to set the resolution and refresh of a monitor or TV beyond that to which a monitor is capable.

If at any time I had a problem, my intent was to remove the dummy vga adaptor and the pc would default to the TV.

This is only theory and I am not convinced it will work?

OK, tell me if this would work for you, cos I've done a similar thing with a different method...
It does all hang on having XP Pro as your operating system (or a Win server edition I guess)
Set up one user account for GBPVR, and another for doing your 'maintainance'. Install a terminal server patch http://sala.pri.ee/?page_id=11
Now you can have GBPVR running as normal and rdp (not vnc) on to the second account on your machine in the background to do whatever it was you wanted. Most reasonable spec machines ought to be ableto run two sessions without glitching GBPVr too much, although I'd be very careful about running intensive apps while recording Desperate Housewives for mrs.zapret Wink
