Is it possible this is something caused by my AverMedia tuner. Is it the tuner's drive that creates the dvr-ms format or is that something I can change in GBPVR?
Should I be able to play dvr-ms formats in GBPVR?

The mux filter you use dictates the type of file that gets created. The Microsoft DVR-MS mux create .dvr-ms files. The TS Mux mux creates .ts files. The Cyberlink and ATI muxes produce .mpg files.
Quote:Should I be able to play dvr-ms formats in GBPVR?Yes. A large percentage of users here record .dvr-ms files. I'm not aware of any playback issues with this type of file. Must be something funny going on on your machine.

I can play the dvr-ms files using vlc too. I'm confused by GBPVR has issues. I tried TX MUX and FULL TS and I got different kinds of files. PVRx2 COULD PLAY THESE. Are these inferior formats to the dvr-ms?
I now realize that sometimes when I select the dvr-ms files from PVRx2, then PVRx2 stops responding and Vista reports an error that PVRx2 is no longer responding, Vista terminats the app, and offer's to check for solutions. Vista doesn't find solutions.

I'm still trying to solve the problem discussed in this thread. Attached is a graphedit rendering of a GBPVR recording. Does this look correct?
This was using Microsoft dvr-ms as the BDA rendering engine. When I try to play in graphedit. I get sound but no video. When I play in the file in Windows Media Center it plays fine. When I play the file in GBPVR I get PVRX2 Not Responding and it closes. The log is similar to in the above message. Any suggestions how to debug this further. I notice when running SageTV I get recordings directly into MPEG2 format. Is there a way to do that in GBPVR?

I would not be surprised if nobody gives you any suggestions how to debug this particular decoder. Most everybody will throw out the decoder which doesn't work and check out something else. I am recording in dvr-ms and tried 7 or 8 decoders before I settled on my 2 favorites. I tried nvidia, ati, ffdshow, mpv decoder, cyberlink (a leftover from Cyberlink Power Video trial version I had on my computer for a while), etc. If you want to record in mpg read about bda multiplexer here http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Config/Misc2 and in the forum. Gbpvr can record in dvr-ms or mpg and transcode automaticaly to any format you desire immediately after recording has finished or at specified time. It is very flexible.

Does this look correct?Windows Media Center is likely to be using a different decoder than this one shown in the graph, so that would be the first thing I'd try (other decoder). Quote:Any suggestions how to debug this further. I notice when running SageTV I get recordings directly into MPEG2 format. Is there a way to do that in GBPVR?As mentioned in the reply above, you can chang ethe BDA Multiplexer setting to record different format files. The Microsoft DVR-MS mux produces .dvr-ms files. The TS Mux produces .ts files. The Cyberlink/ATI/Mainconcept muxes produce .mpg files. |
