Hi,

I have some AVIs (Xvid) that will not play with wmplayer but do play fine with VLC. I am presumung that GBPVR uses wmplayer aswell.

Can I change any setting to force GBPVR to use VLC?

GBPVR uses neither VLC nor Media Player. If they are playable in VLC but not WMP, it is because you do not have the correct DirectShow decoder filters installed. VLC uses it's own internal filters.

Search these forums for "GSpot" or "AviCodec". They are utilities to determine the decoder needed for playing a file. Links have been posted for them. Once you have the necessary filters, they will play in WMP and GBPVR.

Right... I have checked gspot and avicodec. Both report that codes are installed and supported.

Avicodec reports the codec as OPenDivx v4
GSpot lists is as Xvid 1.1.0 Beta2

Audio is mp3.

Try downloading GraphEdit, run it and select "File" -> "Render media file", select the file you want to play and see if it renders the graph properly.

Graphedit can not render it.

It seems like it is the file that is fault. It is using the OpenDML format (multipart AVIs).
I guess the problem is with how it is generated. VLC is obviously more forgiving.

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried simply installing the XviD Codec?

Yes, uninstalled and reinstalled.

The sample Xvid file from Xvid.org works fine.
It is the multipart AVI that is causing confusion for directshow.
