I’m a mediaportal user but I’m thinking of getting a popcorn hour to replace my htpc. So for TV I’ll be using gbpvr. Below is my current setup, and can I replicate my current setup? What do I need to be aware of? What will work and what won’t work? Are there anyone at the forum running gbpvr and have ComHem as cable provider that can share some info?

Swedish cable provider ComHem, FireDTV-C for digital TV with a subscription card for channels I subscribe to. Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 for analogue TV.

TV-server running Windows Server 2003 SP2 (I use this computer for some work stuff to, thats why I need Windows Server…) MP TV Server handles TV and the EPG and recordings, I never watch TV on the server, only the server software is installed there.

Clients: I have three computers running MediaPortal and the TV client installed. Living room, bedroom and ”the office”. It’s important for me to be able to watch TV at all these locations. I plan on replacing the computers in the living room and bedroom with popcorn hour. As a remote I use Microsoft MCE remote.

Is there anyone who has written a guide how to set this stuff up from end to end?

What sort of guide? using gbpvr as a front end to media portal? I doubt anyone here has.

If all you want is to browse the recorded videos made in MP in the Pop corn then you wouldn't need anything.

But if you want gbpvr to control Mp, ie be able to schedule etc, then you've got a much bigger project on your hands. You'll have to receive all requests to record something in gbpvr and fire it towards Mp for action.

So you've got to figure out what you want to do...

There is quite a bit of info both on this board and wiki (if you get stuck feel free to ask - we're a pretty friendly bunch!)

I'm not familiar FireDTV-C (maybe someone else can chime in?), but no problems with the 150

GBPVR can be run as a client to GBPVR server (not as client to MP AFAIK)

IIRC there are few people using the MCE remote

As long as you can get your cable capture source working you shouldn't have any problems replicating your setup

Psycik = I want to stop using MP all together and replace it with GBPVR.

As clients to the GBPVR ”server” there will be both GBPVR installed on a computer and if all goes well two popcorn hour.

I’ll make a backup of my server and install GBPVR, and I’ll go from there. Thanks guys!

How do I scan for channels? Don't get it cant find anything anywhere about it.?
Being in Sweden I setup EPG using tvgrabber.heiigjen.com and that gave me channels, but on analogue card just give me static...

In the capture source channel list, you need to have the RF channel number used your broadcaster. Some xmltv files supply this and the app will automatically populate it for you. Otherwise you need to run the tuning assistant to check what channel numbers your broadcaster is using, then edit the channel numbers in the capture source channel list.

Hi 4Fred,

Please be aware that for encrypted DVB-C you'll need to use Multidec with GBPVR, because there's no support for your FireDTV Common Interface in GBPVR. Multidec could work for you, but I gave it up and record my encrypted DVB-C with Mediaportal Smile.

Hi guys! Switching to PCH from a HTPC as a complete solution is far from as simple as I had hoped... Sheik Yerbouti (great name, I have that album on Vinyl), you are using a PCH, are you using it for TV? If so, what are the limitations compared to MP?
