I have analog TV working fine with guide and remote control.

I had to add the tuner to direct.ini ass suggested here: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...light=1950

Only problem is, now how do I add the tuner for QAM?
(perhaps i am confused with ATSC and QAM? (I want digital via coax cable feed) )

the HVR-1950 is a hybrid analog/digital with an internal hardware decoder.

(PS: How do I determine whether or not the feed is actually being decoded
via the tuners hardware decoder and not a software decoder)

UPDATE:
I've got the card detected!

I ran FilterCheck and went through the output log.
Then I added a few lines to the bda.ini

But! I am unsure about the "TUNING_TYPE"
(any other errors you see.. dont hesitate ^.^ )

Would someone please check my entry?

bda.ini entery:

Hardware decoding is for Analog, there is no decoding done in digital as the stream is already in the correct format

Tuning type for US digital will always be ATSC even if its QAM

imagn: if i am using analog, how do i know it is being decoded? or is it just done automatically by the device?

Thanks for posting the entries. I've added them to the master files for the next release.

You seem to have decoding/encoder mixed up. This device has a hardware MPEG2 encoding on its analog tuner. When you do a analog recording, GB-PVR will take the output of the hardware MPEG2 encoder and write this to the resulting .mpg file.

For digital, the stream is already encoded by the broadcaster prior to transmission, and the app simply saves the raw stream to disk (via a little remuxing).

For both analog or digital recordings, when you play the recording the application uses software decoding provided by the decoders on your machine.
