I have been having occasional timing problems when playing back HD recordings on my popcorn hour. Short recordings (1/2 hour) usually play back fine. Longer ones, like a 3 or 4 hour football game, I will have problems trying skip forward in the file. For example, the 30 second skip will result in about 3 minute skip.

I have some recordings that will not allow me to skip at all or even allow the popcorn 0-9 percent skip. I just get the icon on screen that indicates that the operation is not allowed.

I am using the ts mux that ships with GBPVR. Will changing the mux help? Are there any tools I can run the recording through to fix the timings?

The recordings are coming from a HVR 1600 QAM.

The popcorn hour is pretty bad at skipping in .ts files. Several people are hassling them over it on the NMT forums, so hopefully they'll make some improvements.

Actually my position on the NMT handling of mpeg-ts has softened a bit in the past few weeks because:

- it is somewhat unfair, there are probably just as many complaints about digital file handling through DirectShow in PVRx2 and given the choice personally I would use the PCH since it works better for me.

- I have been downloading some samples that people are posting that don't work with PVRx2 and/or the MVP via ffmpeg and vlc and they work perfectly with the PCH

- I have some other samples that don't even work on the vlc and mplayer that skip fine on the PCH.

- sub identified that if the timecode was bad, there is nothing GBPVR will be able to do about it so we can't provide a better alternative solution.

- most samples can be fixed with TS4NP and TSDoctor proving the sample is wrong.

- GBPVR users aren't providing the digital samples to give Syabas and my limited digital broadcast are handled quite well (except for rewind) and Syabas and the rest of the beta team want them. I understand that moving some big files around is impossible, but some is going to have to isolate segments in files that cause these problems. I have a perfect example in one broadcast where one show ends and another begins and the you can that PCH thinks the file is over at the end of show one but, I can use the number key based % jump to skip over it and the second show plays fine.

- there have been some improvements in audio pid handling which is better than no progress

The reality is that these broadcasts aren't intended for the consumer market especially PVR use because live TV often works quite well. I am going to keep pushing and right now we are asking for the 30 second skips to be based less on the time line and more on the filesize which would be a step forward.
