TIP: save hdd space with transcoding

This sounds like a great idea lif but do you know of a way to skip commercials while viewing a xvid file? Correct me if I'm wrong, but GBPVR can only skip commercials in mpg2 files because it is able to extract frame information from the file. I don't know how difficult it would be to get the frame info from a xvid file.

why couldn't it be possible to simply remove the commercials completely using comskip and possibly some fancy command line work w/ the divx/xvid encoder. i dunno I guess you'd need something a little more hefty than simply the encoder. but it seems to me to be a heck of alot more space saving if you cut out the commercials completely. I know in the US, commercials consume 1/3 of the recording time.
If you are creating a new video file and already have the time intervals of the commercials (via the txt file) i wouldn't think this would be too tough. anyone know of some video editing apps that can run on command line?
