Which codecs?

I tried the PureVideo but they didn't work well at all and since MPV/MPA was working well I just went back to them. You can get them at freecodecs.com

I downloaded the MPV/MPA codecs from free-codecs.com, and all there is is an .ax file, which I extracted into my system32 folder, but it refused to register - how do you install them?? Maybe I got the wrong package, I got the MPA decoder from here:

there are instructions on the free codecs site on how to register
