just figured this out and thought it might be of help to others...
I found this http://www.desimonesystems.com/suspendtrigger/index.php which launches a program of choice on standby or resume. I've put it on my client to send a WOL packet (with this http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-cmd.aspx) to wake up the server every time the client starts. So far this has pretty much eliminated the big red cross and ctlr+alt+delete net error that occurs if GBPVR starts up on the client with the server asleep.

I'm struggling with the same issue.... how does this help? I assume that when the client wakes up and then wakes up the server, that the server simply goes to sleep again after some period of inactivity. Or do you then start GBPVR on the client, which keeps the server awake?

I'm still waiting for a better solution.... something that pings the server, waits for a response, and then starts the client GBPVR. I think this can be done with the "ping" command in a batch file but I think that requires a fixed IP address.... and that (I think) causes problems updating DNS server info from my router.

Too bad GBPVR client doesn't have a built in utility to check the server.... that would A) wake up the server and B) prevent errors if the server wasn't yet awake.
