I have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150MCE card that didn't come with a remote. I'd like to be able to do basic things in GB-PVR like change the channels, record, etc, with a remote. Can anyone recommend a good remote that's widely available and plug-and-play for use with GB-PVR?

Can you add a Hauppauge remote as an accessory to that card? If so that would be a good option as many people (including me) use Hauppauge remotes with GB-PVR.

My retailer didn't seem to sell that remote separately. They have several generic remotes that seem to be intended for controlling the Vista Media Center. Would those remotes generally work? But below is a user who tried to get one of those remotes to work with GB-PVR: "I was able to install a driver for this remote, and can see the red light on the USB receiver light up when it receives commands, but GB-PVR just ignores it."

There is no native support for that "Anyware GP-IR02B" r/c in GB-PVR.

If a generic r/c sends keyboard commands then HIP is an option: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/HipGuide

Is there a list of remote controllers with native support in GB-PVR, for which HIP is not required? I've read http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/Hardware which only mentions Microsoft's MCE remotes and the Firefly in terms of PC remotes. I don't think the Microsoft remote can be purchased separately, and the Firefly does not appear to be widely available anymore.

I will soon have a Logitech Harmony remote but I'd still need an infrared reciever, which means at least getting a PC remote with a infrared receiver that's supported by GB-PVR.

as long as the remote can send keystrokes to apps then it can work...
that is if you can configure it's own software to output the keys you want..Smile
if it comes with software, you'll have to look at how configureable it is..[most can send keystrokes]

but if it's a MCE 'compatible' then just set gbpvr to use MCE remote and you're good..[or you can use HIP for more control and buttons]
there's a list floating around here of what keys do what..also the wiki..

For a quick and simple solution I recently bought a Hauppauge Media Center Remote Control Kit. The remote is supplied with a USB IR Receiver which has a reasonable length cable and an IR blaster to control a set-top box. It works with GB-PVR straight out of the box on Vista and just requires installation of a driver on XP (unless you have XP Media Center Edition, in which case the driver is already installed).

There's some information on using remotes in the GB-PVR Wiki here: Hardware and on key mappings for different remotes here: Remote Key Mappings
