Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble with GB-PVR and MPG files. I can watch XviD .avis and HD .mkv/mp4 files without any problem, but as soon as I try to watch LiveTV or playback a recorded MPG, I get really bad performance - the picture normally freezes after a couple of seconds, but the sound keeps on going.

I'm assuming this is some kind of decoder type issue - I've got everything set to 'System Default' in config.exe, and using Windows Media Player, the files play back without any problem.

I've tried various other decoders - ffdshow, ATI, cyberlink, "MPEG Video Decoder", and nothing seems to make a difference.

There's no useful messages in the debug logs, because I think as far as GBPVR is concerned, it's doing its job ok - I just get "Before LiveTV" and then "After LiveTV".

It's worth mentioning that I did just update my nvidia drivers (using their "tell me which ones i need" tool), but given I can play all the other types of file, I can't see that that's the problem?

I'd really appreciate anyone elses thoughts on things I could try!

Thanks

Hmmm, usually for me if it plays in media player it plays in GBPVR fine. It sounds like a codec issue though. I find the MPV/MPA codecs from freecodecs.com work the best for me. The codec that came with my Hauppauge HVR-1600 seems to work fine too.

I was having some playback issues at first and found it had something to do with my AMD dual core processor. There are some posts here about that. I was able to download a cpu driver program from AMD that fixed that problem.

I'm sorry but I'm not at home right now so I can't give you links, but do a little forum searching and I think you'll find what I'm referencing.

Hope ya get it sorted out!

Take care,

Steve

Reproduce the problem using the Cyberlink decoders, then zip and attach the logs, and I'll take a look.

Thanks Steve, I'll maybe check those out.

sub, here you go - thanks for taking the time to have a look Smile

I've not seen these problems before - but I haven't really used the app "extensively". I'm semi-convinced the problem started when I upgraded the graphics driver, although that seems pretty odd. Maybe if you can't see anything in the logs, I'll try rolling back and see what happens.

I should mention that the recordings turn out fine, and streaming livetv to a client also works fine.

I cant see anything obvious in those logs, but it might be worth removing AC3Filter or disabling it to see if it helps. It has caused problems for some users in the past. You'd probably want to double check the text "AC3Filter" doesnt appear in pvrx2.exe-native.log after trying that to make sure its really gone too.

Thanks for taking a look - I appreciate it.

I tried without the AC3Filter and it made no difference...I'm just waiting on the box rebooting to see if rolling back the Nvidia driver helps. If not, I'll have a bit of a play and probably give up, since I should be ordering my new client HTPC tonight anyway Smile

Hey guys,

So yeah, just rolled back my drivers (to some from 2004!), and it's all working perfectly again. The newer ones were from 2006, so if anyone comes along with an ancient Nvidia Quadro NVS (AGP 8x, 64MB) and has problems, let them know that with the right drivers, it can play even 720p HD content Smile

Thanks for your help sub, and thanks for making such awesome software Smile
