Can't play .ts files outside of GBPVR.

I can't seem to play any .ts files outside of GBPVR. GraphEdit, Graphstudio and MediaPlayerClassicHC all crash. I'm not sure how to tell the filter in use (which I assume is the one that's crashing) without one of those running. I can attach to the filter graph from GBPVR using GraphEdit, which runs great, but I can't see any way to set that graph up for use by external apps.

I didn't use .ts before switching to 1.3.11 last week, so I'm not sure if this symptom is new from all the survival patches or old.

You probably need to install the Haali media splitter, or other TS source filter on to your machine. The GB-PVR TS reader filter isnt made available for external apps to use.

I removed Haali, partly because it was interfering with m2ts BluRay playback setup with Whurlston's app. I suspect that I could play .ts before that, and that the Haali removal caused things to start crashing. One of the first things I tried was to reinstall Haali, but that didn't improve things. I also tried HDTVPump.

I even tried removing all references to Haali in the registry and reinstalling again.

Is it possible to tell from the registry which splitter/filter will be called up in order to play a .ts file? Perhaps I've got something with a very high merit that's crashing on me before the later installed filters/splitters with lower merit get their chance.

Second, I know I've seen a tool for finding broken/missing filters, but can't find it again. Does anyone know the name for that tool? I saw something saying GraphStudio could do this, but if it's in the menu, I can't find it.

If you download graphedit, and select the 'render media file' option, then choose your .ts file, it'll show you the directshow filters that are being chosen.

get GSpot and you'll be able to tell what windows defaults are, plus change them...
i'm pretty sure if you get the MPCHC mpegsplitter it'll play those fine...works for bluray also..
i would think you already have it if using movie library plugin...

If you have or can get Nvidia Purevideo, it has a ts filter that works well. Called Nvidia Transport demux, IIRC. In later versions of Purevideo, it can only connect to Nvidia decoders, so your locked in for that. It can play poorly formed ts streams that GBPVR cannot. A ts stream should have a "magic" byte with the value 0x047 every 188 bytes; some files I capture from STB firewire don't have this form, and can't be played by GBPVR. You might look at the file with a hex editor/viewer and see if you see a recurring 047 value. I can demux and remux these files using the MS MPEG demux and the ATI mux and get generally useable ps files (using Graphrecorder so I can specify the graph).

That's my problem. It either crashes or says "Could not construct a graph from this file." Either way, I can't track down the filter that's causing the problem.

Gspot says "not a valid avi file." I've got no trouble playing BluRay with MPCHC.

These are straight recordings by GBPVR from DVB-S and play great inside GBPVR. Just checked- yes, every 0xBC like clockwork it's 0x47. My problem is the codec hell. I'd like to step through the process, just as Windows does, and spot where it's going wrong. Perhaps I'm missing a registry entry for .ts or something. I think it's time to do a restore before it's too late.
