I just upgraded to GB-PVR 1.3.11. This is a drastic upgrade, because I was previously using 0.99.5.

I installed the .net 20, the runtime files, and installed GB-POVR successfully. I went through the initial setup, where some of my previous settings were retained, and some weren't. I went through every menu, and set things up.

Looks like instead of the old gbpvr.exe we now have pvrx2.exe. Every time I try to run it, nothing happens. I get no splash screen, just some drive activity, and the machine locks up. If I bring up task manager, I can see the application in there, but it doesn't seem to do anything other than lock up the machine so all I can do is end the process to get my machine back.

Are there some minimum requirements for running this new application? I tried to find some by searching around the forum and the wiki, but couldn't find it.

I am using:

Dell GX280, P4 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM
NVIDA GEForce FX 5200
Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II
Windows XP Pro SP2

Here is my pvrx2.exe log file:

Can you post your pvrx2.exe-native.log file?

There isnt a definitive list. I've only tested it on the couple of machines I have, so its difficult to give hard and fast rules about hardware I've never tested it on.

I cant see anything wrong in either of those two logs. It looks like its started up.

When you say the machine locks up, is it totally dead in the water, requiring reboot? If so, it might be related to your video card, since directx is used to display the user interface. In that case, try looking for updated nvidaa drivers for it.

No, the machine is locked up where all I can do is move the mouse around the screen, but I can't click on anything and have it respond. If I do ctrl-alt-del and go into task manager and shut down pvrx2, everything starts functioning again without a reboot.

I did see references in one log to missing .png files for the skin, could the program be loading but I can't see anything because there are no graphics files? (Invisible app! Smile )

Those messages are normal. Just means the skin isnt showing some optional images.

Does it make any difference if you use 'start in window mode' or not?

I found the problem. My mistake, really. I do the majority of my management of the DVR machine remotely across the network, because the DVR machine itself is hooked into the TV and the cable, with no keyboard or mouse. The program was loading normally, but the screen wasn't showing on my remote machine (using Timbuktu Pro).

This will be a problem, however. I frequently will remote into the machine this way when I am on the road to change programming or monitor drive space, and if the screen doesn't appear on my remote machine, how will I be able to change anything?

Also, my Hauppauge remote no longer functions with this new version.

So, what we have is: To see the screen, I have to turn on the TV. But to do anything on the screen, I have to use my remote connection, since the Hauppauge remote doesn't work.

You probably just need to click the 'fix hauppauge remote settings' button in the config app.

Sorry - I dont know anything about Timbuktu Pro. Lots of people use VNC for this type of remote management though.

That did take care of it. Well, that's most of the problems out of the way now. At least it's functional. As long as it records the program I have pending in 3 hours, and does the update correctly, should be good. The reason I upgraded was because my old version stopped doing the automatic EPG updates, and I was having to do them manually. That version didn't have support for Schedules Direct.

Crossing fingers that all goes well! Thanks for your help.
