Yes, they're to separate steps. When you set GB-PVR to automatically update the EPG, its updating its listing database from the listings in the xmltv file you told it to use.

Before it runs that import though, it'll look to see if there is an UpdateEPG.bat file, and run it if it exists. You can put any custom commands you want to run in that batch file, for example running mc2xml.

Quote:And, if it does do that, does it somehow know when MC2XML is done updating the XML file before it starts to try and read from that xml file?
Yes. It doesnt import the listings until UpdateEPG.bat completes running.

So, when you see wiki pages or other posts of people talking about using task scheduler to do the EPG update, was that old information, perhaps referencing a version of GBPVR that didn't include the auto-update EPG function? Or, do they just really like using more MS programs? Big Grin

If the user uses any third party utilities to collect their XMLTV files, its up to them how they they do it. They can do it use the Windows Task Scheduler if they prefer, or the UpdateEPG.bat.

Its always been able to do this. Its just down to personal preference I suppose.

Really there are two ways to get the xmltv file into GB-PVR. But both of them download new listings before GB-PVR updates (imports) them into the database...

Whe you add the mc2xml commands into the UpdateEPG, GB-PVR runs those commands before it tries to import the xmltv file into the database

If you have taskscheduler run your grabber, it must be done before GB-PVR is set to Update(import) the EPG.

Some people use the Task Scheduler because their grabber (or enhancer) has troubles running from the UpdateEPG.bat
